Health vs Defence mods? Which makes you more survivable?

I want to mod out my ST Han but i dont have access to speed mods so it either Health or Defence mod farming. What are the diferences between the two and which makes you more survivabe? Also what important secondaries am i looking for the mods on STH besides the speed secondary on the arrow shaped mod?

Defence lowers overall damage taken and has lower scaling (the more defense you have, the less defense you gain).

It is generally better to get hp/prot over defense, but some characters can gain a lot more from defense. I believe st han is one of those toons. Defense mods with hp/prot secondaries should be good. However, forsake everything for speed secondaries :(

Lets say for example i have 6 defence mods but the arrow mod with speed secondary that has only 2 dots but i have a health mod with 5 dots also with speed secondary. Should i put in the higher level mod even if i dont get the set bonus or the extra speed is more beneficial?
  • Health with Protection is the best option for getting them high. Look for good secondary stats like Damage and Tempo, too.
  • The value of health and defense are dependent upon each other.

If your toon already has high health/prot, you'll get the most value from defense.
If your toon already has high defense, you'll get the most value from health/prot.

If the two are balanced, then you should keep them balanced.

Not very helpful, I know. Damage mitigation is very nuanced and difficult to boil down. To really understand it, you have to consider linear vs non-linear effects (like +100 health vs +1% health), the health-value of defense (5% damage reduction ~ 5% health increase), the order of operations and how stacking works (do two 100% increases total to a 300% increase or a 200% increase?), risk tolerance (is 5% damage reduction better or worse than 5% dodge?), expected healing (the more you expect to heal, the greater your effective health, and the greater the effect of defense), and character specific nuance (like the Stormtrooper's % increase to defense).

In an attempt to be helpful:
    Toukai's suggestion was good :)
Especially if you have a healer in your squad.
If you don't have a healer, then focus solely on protection (health secondary) instead.
