To be fair, "whaling out on Traya' doesn't make any sense as she's FTP and many whales don't have her. It's more of the legacy players that have her because they are in stronger guilds with people who have been playing long as they have.
As far as FTP with the slow death, people have been saying that day 1. FTP is fine and will be fine. It's just that 6 month players can't expect to keep up with 2 year players for obvious reasons..

I keep hearing this opinion over and over; "if you are f2p and you are able to place at the top of your arena your shard is half dead/dead"
I am at a launch shard and I never fell out of the ability to reach the top since I arrived there. So maybe I'm not seeing the picture clearly. A few questions follow;
-Are you in your arenas shard chat?
-Were you able to previously place at the top, but now can't and what is your take on the reasons for it?
-How many of top 50 or 20 in your arena do you suppose are whales/krakens?

And I love how people claim Traya is FTP! Lol in what universe? To get Traya as FTP, either you’re in a whale guild that is carried by whales or you’re simply lying about FTP. The teams and gear required to complete the outrageously terrible HSTR in all four phases at this point are for whales. Sure, we may be able to build up all those teams in a year or two but if you already have Traya, then either you lucked out with whales carrying you or you are a whale pretending to be FTP just to defend this game (or you’re in denial like most addicts).

Lol farm them....6 stun guns equals 300 salvage. You can't farm that in a week including whatever you get from raids and everything else. I have 60 Toons needing stun guns and that's not counting the ones the need multiple stun guns. So I'm looking at roughly farming 5000+ stun salvage which will take roughly a year.
That's not including any of the new Toons released or legendaries coming up. It's beyond laughable that have 1000s or more of multiple pieces yet instead of CG utilizing those underused gears they would rather keep the massive bottle neck of stun guns going. Oh and I'm sure the new Toons will need their fair share as well so might as well add another couple of thousand to that.
It will literally take 8 months to a year just to gear some of my main toon teams. Some I don't have a choice I have to because they are pilots and since ships 2.0 screwed us. I don't really have a choice.
Or you can whale it out and pay what 20 bucks per stun gun. That's a nice profit of 10 grand or more. SMH I really do hope Apple and Google follow through and yank EAs whole app collection for practices such as these.

The whole 'I chose to spend my energy on unlocking toons and now I can't gear them...because I spend all of my energy unlocking toons' argument is tired. The game is about choices everyone. Make them.
And I would hope anyone with a roster north of 2M GP has somewhere between 40-60 toons waiting on a stun gun. GoH's happens to be gear (yes, typically stun guns and carbantis). So be it. Of course it will take you eight months - otherwise you'd have 3M GP after playing the game for six months. How would that be any fun?

This... Also it's not really a choice spending 150 crystals and 400 energy on 5 stun guns is a horrible choice.. against farming toons that drop needed gear as well. Eventually the Stun guns will come..
So yes you can say it's a "choice" but when you have two options and one of them is so pathetic to not even be considered it's not really a "choice" unless your new or HAVE to finish that JTR team or Arena team it would just be **** to spend 150 crystals on 5 stun guns and forgo the hard node farms.
Ship table perfect example... you gonna farm 0-3 stun guns a day or farm lando/falcon or nest... you can say it's a choice...but it's not
Stun guns are their money maker...the choice is buy them or not..farming them from nodes is not...(YES whales who have everything farmed do have that choice) They bought that choice....the spend $$$ choice...not the do i farm hard nodes or stun guns choice...Getting locked out of legendarys or Hero Journeys not worth 3 stun gun salvage a day
Let's set aside crystals, I fully agree that is a bad choice....
Stun guns (6) appear in shard shop about once a day, they also show in the GET store (5) once a day..... You can get them from rancor and sith raids as well..... Plus you can farm them for energy..... At a .3 drop rate, one run of 12 a day nets you 4 guns on average..... That's 15 guns a day not accounting for raid, TW or TB drops .... That's roughly a gun every 3 days....
I'm not saying they aren't a bottleneck, they certainly are.... But if you have 30 or 60 or even 120 toons not geared because you are waiting for guns, that's an awful lot of energy spent farming toons and not much put into getting guns and other gear.....
Arguably, you really need only a handful of teams to play this game well, your arena team and a few select teams for tank and sith, some TB hero units etc...... The only game mode where having a whack of teams is beneficial is TW, and setting a bunch of ungeared junk isn't going to do your guild any favors.....
IMOP, I would rather have fewer well geared toons than many undergeared toons...

Your math is just a bit overly optimistic. One gun every five days - I can accept that. Still a bottleneck though.
But there is another issue. At any given time CG can release a legendary event that calls for a random, rarely used character. I missed out on the first CLS event 'cause I didn't have Old Ben. Going forward, I've decided it would be a better strategy to have every single character seven-starred with leftover energy spent on gear than to have half of them 7/GL12 and the other half at 4 stars and not geared at all. Just so I am prepared. Helps with TB platoons, too.
My math comes from the known drop rate and what appears in the shops..... Sure, you may get a gun in two days once and sometimes a gun in 5 days, it it averages out to about 3 in the end.....
We all.play the game our own way and have our own strategy.... So, I am not saying anyone is playing it wrong, what I am saying since I took up the topic is that it's about choices..... You choose to have more toons, less guns..... I don't mind missing out on a legendary its first time around to learn and focus on what I need....
At the end of the day, you can't have it both ways, you aren't going to get all of the toons and all of the gear easily.... That's just the way it works...
