That is a factually incorrect statement, as the red crate only gives 90 shards of the main unit.
90 shards per red crate, plus 20 at the merchants in Sectors 2-5. Unless you completely skipped buying the 20 shards available at the merchant each round, which is a great oversight, you should have unlocked Scythe after 3.
