Plan for Players New to 4M GP to Collect Conquest Toons

Does CG have any kind of plan to allow new players to collect conquest characters in any kind of reasonable timeframe? At only 20 shards every month it'll be over 16 months before a new player could hope to unlock a conquest character. So even with these hyperdrive resistance bundles you still wouldn't have Ben Solo to make a Rey team GAC ready.

I get that most of the game isn't geared well toward new players, but conquest especially feels very stacked against anyone hoping to get into the game.

Conquest really isn’t designed for beginner players… it more of less requires you to have a decently well developed roster even at the easiest tier of Conquest.

It’ll take a long time before you get the Conquest reward units. Besides, even if you did get them I doubt they would make too much of a difference since the teams the reward characters go with take a long time to develop
  • CG has a plan to help people catch up. For the low monthly price of $29.99, you can unlock Conquest Pass+, which comes with an extra proving ground event, turning that 16-month grind into an 8-month grind instead. Problem solved.
  • don’t forget about the 4m gp and relic 3 requirements. proving grounds has some of the most difficult requirements and requires the best teams because it rewards some of the most sought after characters in the franchise that have been designed to fill specific rolls for mid & end game players. new players wont necessarily get the most use out of CAT with their CWC.
  • I get what you are asking but I'll point out some things.
    1. You aren't buying rey with the bundles, you still have to wait for the ship event to come around 7 times to unlock that requirement. (Or wait for the event and drop 6k crystals on refreshes)
    2. Rey doesn't need Ben to be "gac ready". Yes Ben helps and makes it more annoying to beat rey but there is no requirement to have Ben in order to use Rey.
    3. Buying the bundles doesn't get you to 4m gp (requirement for proving grounds)
    4. You can buy the conquest + pass each conquest to half the time needed.
    5. You can spend crystals to refresh proving grounds (not sure if there is a limit to how many times you can do this).
    6. They are selling 2/5ths of the counter to rey+Ben already (starkiller and Mara jade)
  • Ya, those are all valid points and the Rey example probably wasn't the best (Maul is a better example since he's a huge boost to a Mando team that doesn't take much to gear up). I forgot conquest pass let's you get two of the refreshes for the conquest characters which is a significant improvement, albeit costly.

So everyone's ok with players new to 4M GP to either have to wait the 17 months to unlock or spend $240 to unlock them in 8 months? Personally, that seems pretty tough on anyone new to conquest. Also... That assumes CG doesn't continue to increase the difficulty for proving grounds for no apparent reason and you actually can beat the event!

My main question is, is there going to be an accelerated character-like option for conquest's "older" characters at some point, especially the ones that are prerequisites to other characters?
  • I assume they will eventually give all conquest characters the razor crest treatment (able to be purchased in shipments).

I'm pretty on the fence about the game in general, I see and understand both point of views (newer players get shafted by long grinds and characters being a reward for playing the game and maintaining a solid roster)

Your point could be put to other arguments, e.g why is rolo or wat such a long farm When they are requirements for other characters?

Swgoh is a mobile hero collector/battler game. The monetisation is not the worst for this type of game, but it is not bad comparatively and totally random (raid SL, genshin etc) and you can focus farm a hero/team.

I as a player who had only been above 4m gp for the previous 4 proving grounds (i think), I would love if the characters were accelerated but I also don't have the correct teams to put them in yet (e.g still working towards jmk and rey and dont have lv/mandos) and the time it takes to farm these character allows me to build the teams.
  • Would be nice if they did more to get new players caught up. The problem now is fresh level 85 players are actually locked out of the most of the game.

They need to change how accessible content is and introduce significant catch up mechs not saying give someone 10mil gp after 6 months but if the top game mode which has characters that take 17months to farm is also gated by 4m gp and relic characters then you are just screwing new players and without new players this whole thing goes belly up. They are fixed 17months behind + however long it takes to hit 4m GP.

Just seems like overly negative approach to me, it won’t hurt the old players they have still years ahead but it means new players have a shot of catching up where now it’s quite literally impossible.

I don't think "everyone" is ok with that. I'm sure some people are fine with it (likely the same people that got mad about the lightspeed bundles) - but even as a player that has all the conquest units unlocked, I think proving grounds tends to be unnecessarily punitive for newer players - or even long-time players that maybe didn't have time for conquest.

That being said, you don't have to come out of pocket to do the refreshes. It's almost trivial to save 2.2k crystals in a month. Also, if you don't have ANY of the characters, you're really getting quite a bit of value for buying the $30 pass+ to get the extra proving grounds event since you can do all of the battles. I don't know how many character shards that is total, but it's quite a few.

As of now I haven't heard of any plans that CG has to accelerate any of these characters. I suspect they'll all stay in proving grounds for some time to come.

I'm very much not a fan of proving grounds and as a new or returning player I would find it very discouraging. I don't envy the position you're in, but at least there's a way forward.
  • I am more mid game than end game and have found the proving grounds to be appropriate in terms of challenge and pace. I am just glad we are given a shot to get the conquest characters at all. I have obtained, Razors Crest, CAT, interceptor and Maul through proving ground and am close to the rest in varying degrees.

Having proving grounds removes the pressure to some degree to having to max out conquest all the time. Its nice to know you can get them if you don't go hard in conquest (not one my favorite game mode, a necessary evil IMO).
