Putting the Acolyte drama to rest

We’ve gotten objectively bad characters in the game before and had them be good units. Rey, Dark Side Rey, 5 different versions of Han and Luke (not bad but very repetitive)…

But now when Acolyte units are being suggested, everyone flips their lid like it’s the end of the world! The quality (or lack thereof in this case) of a character should not determine how little use you think they would have in game.

Look, the only good characters in the show were Sol and the Stranger, and Yord and Jecki were pretty cool too. Everyone else can go, lol.

But that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have good viability in game. How petty can you guys get?

  • Yes, I'm sure characters like Sol and Jecki could still be decent to play as in SWGOH depending on how the developers implement them which in some way could redeem them and the Acolyte. Heck, the Acolyte is only one small part of the greater High Republic multi-media series.

Honestly, if you're an older Star Wars fan then you'd know there are much more poorly received works in the Star Wars franchise like the Jedi Prince series or the Crystal Star; the latter which in a way had been redeemed with Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

  • Characters from 'The Acolyte' joining the holotables is not the end of the world

The whole internet shutting down, that's the end of the world

  • I found the last season of the bad batch a little disappointing. I have no real interest in the characters and I am happy that they are not fantastic because I don't need to go for them. Using them doesn't bring me joy and I don't have time for that.

Acolyte was terrible, and beyond terrible messed with the lore that I love. I hate it. If they bring those characters to the game, they will be needed for something. I don't think any of them have value and if they are good I will be pissed off.

Are saying you won't need bad batch mercenaries? They are going to be in the upcoming raid. And they are actually really good against most non GL teams.

I am not going to build sad batch for the raid, I will go for Darkside Clones, Mace Vanguards, the inevitable side vanguard team and probably pirates. I will not get max raid rewards, but my roster is not at that stage. Most non GL teams can punch up to a GL team. There are many other better teams you would be better off doing (Bo, Reva, UFUs, Quadme, GMother NS, EP Starkiller for when you dont need maximum ufu, Malgus, Finn, Bane, Gungans, maul, your luthen rebel team of choice, traya, Baylen). Between all of them and your GLs there more than enough teams to fill out your Kyber GA. I don't need to go for any of the characters I couldn't care less about.

Going for a team you don't like when they dont perform better than the others makes no sense these days. If they add a rank above Kyber with more defense slots or rework TW that may change.

  • No, but adding characters from the least popular series Disney has released is not a good business strategy.

Bad Batch is loved and CG got flak over the new Mercs team.

A show that got canceled before its first season finale aired isn't a ground for characters. There's plenty of popular products that have characters yet to be added. Andor, ToR, Tales of..., etc.

It's less so that the characters were bad and moreso that the product was a middle finger to a huge chunk of the customer base solely to push a fringe political agenda.
