Relic Delta – The Solution to a problem that doesn’t exist

As a guild leader of a top 100 guild, here are my thoughts regarding this Relic Delta situation. Please articulate to the players “What is the problem you are trying to solve”? I work with large projects in industry and I realize there are Sunk Costs that cannot be recovered. However, Is this strategy to “fix” the perceived problem a success if a large section of the player base disappears?

I have asked my player base which is a combination of whales, dolphins, and basic monthly spenders ranging from 12M GP – 15M GP what they think about this, and it is literally 100% negative. The players don’t understand why this Relic Delta is needed as it seems you are rolling out a change to a problem that doesn’t exist.

The primary frustration is that this change nullifies the years of Modding and Strategic Relic upgrades and years of roster effort and pretty much eliminates creative play (which is the most enjoyable part of the game). I doubt a developer may understand that sentiment, but it is VERY important to the players. These are players that love the game and most are sick over this. I already have messages from players stating they will retire from the game if this rolls out.

The best suggestions that came in from my guild were:

  1. Simply increase the mastery of Relic 9 from 10 to 15.
  2. Increment certain stats on the current higher Relics.
  3. Roll out a new Relic 10. Whales will spend on that, leaving the rest of the player base to continue their progression as-is.

I personally think that any of those, and many others in the forums, are easy fixes to the problem without introducing MANY MANY more issues to the game that would come from this Relic Delta strategy, and hopefully leave the player base intact.

At this point you have a choice to make.

  1. Continue ahead with this flawed approach that the overwhelming majority of the player base does not even want - and risk a substantial percentage of players dropping out of the game.
  2. OR Cease and Desist all work on this change (unfortunately eat the costs already spent) and work on a different approach to solving your perceived issue.

  • If Relic Deltas are tweaked a bit lower, I think they can work just fine. Unpopular opinion, I know.

Could this have been tweaked via other means, such as mastery or even higher Relic levels? Sure, but then you wouldn't screw with data collectors as much. If Deltas are implemented, counter suggestions will likely (and intentionally) be less reliable.

It makes sense that you should worry about attacking an R9 team if you are only R5, even if you have the proper counter. I don't think it should be made impossible to win though, but your chances can probably be lowered a bit, to incentivize putting higher relics on toons. It also makes sense if you bring up all your Jawas to R9, maybe they should sometimes be able to beat some GL teams at R5. To me, this makes the game more interesting. I don't have a single toon above R7 (and most stop at R5) for the purpose of making it better in combat, and I think that may be a problem for CG.

They want us to want higher Relics. But if they make too drastic changes, they may lose some players instead. Slow and steady wins the race.

100% agree. Relic 10 would be beneficial to everyone, especially the devs

    I totally agree with OP.

The purpose of this change is to recognize the players effort they put in relics.

However, it is missing the point.

The game always has been a resource management one. Players will manage their resources according to their liking and needs that varies from one player to another.

In my case I upgraded certain characters to a specific relic level since it was sufficient to my liking. My R5 Bad batch can take down R9 GG, so why upgrading it to R9?

I then used the resource I would have used on my Bad Batch to other characters that really requires it.

I have spent the same resources, but differently.

This change forces players to spend their resources blindly and removes the fun of the strategy.

I like the alternatives OP is bringing and I am hoping CG will change their mind.

    Thank you,

I completely agree with this assessment. I have been playing since the beginning of 2024 and have probably spent around 3k (being honest). I had the extra funds and I wanted to try and "catch up" and enjoy the game more. I have strategized and paid very careful attention to the squads I grind and the very few zetas/omi's that I add. I've been able to punch way up and make it to Kyber, which has me routinely beating teams with higher relic levels that me. Strategy, proper modding, and choosing great counters are very import.

Relic Delta will all but crush my squads and my ability to punch up. Players shouldn't be overwhelming rewarded by having superior relic levels, they should be rewarded mostly for strategizing and war-gaming the crap out of every match up. Because of this announcement, I have cut all spending in SWGOH until CG decides what they are going to do. If any version of this Relic Delta plan is implemented, I will most likely leave the game. I spent money on this game because it was fun, just like any other person does whether its video games, golfing, sports events, etc. If CG continues to move the goal posts by sacrifices creatively for more revenue, then I'll find something else to enjoy in life.  I love Star Wars and always will, but CG is testing my love for this game.  Do what's right CG and listen to the players.

I really don’t believe the majority of players are upset when their R9 team gets beaten by a lower-relic squad, as long as the opponent uses the right counter or strategy. That’s the essence of PvP — carefully balancing your lineup, deployment and learning counters and kits is what keeps it engaging and rewarding. Introducing such a heavy-handed change to address the minor concern that R9 doesn’t always feel rewarding isn’t just unnecessary, it risks undermining what makes the game interesting in the first place.

  • Totally agree . We don’t want it.

but I don’t want relic 10 either .  If that ever was to come , then I would want it to only be for GLs. We need a break from the constant pressure and never ending grind.

  • You left out a major point.  Collaborate with your player base instead of being at constant odds.  When the game first came out and right up to Sith Triumvirate Raid, CG used to partner with the players to a degree and were not out of touch with us.  Now it’s like every other company EA touches, just a money machine until they close it down and shutter the building.
