Speed - highest speed always acts first?

I have a problem with speeds in arena. I thought I knew how it worked, but maybe I don't.

We both run Wiggs with Lando. I have Shoretrooper, he has Anakin. His Biggs is faster and he runs Lando as lead.

The relevant speeds are:
His StHan 202, his Biggs 173
My Biggs 172

He starts on defense with Biggs & 2 guys. I normally run Wedge lead, but switched for test.

My Wedge and Lando should now give my Biggs a speed of 172 + 15 + 45 = 232. Yet his StHan always goes first and it is game over. His speed should be 202 + 15 = 217.

I suppose what happens here is that I always lost the coin toss (the usual...) for hitting max tm. Then when I switched Lando to lead in last (fifth) attempt he called StHan when in previous attempts he always had Anakin giving help.

Looks like I need to spend time to get a cross or triangle for Biggs with a few points of speed, but rather annoying that AI has the benefit here every single time.

If his Biggs is one more speed than yours, there is no coin toss. He WILL go first.

You must be missing something. 1 speed is ll it takes to make a difference, really.

His Biggs gets the same Wedge bonus (presumably, because there is absolutely no reason to run Biggs without Wedge), so will go first (unless you use Lando/AA as leader for an extra speed boost). If his Wiggs combo pulls STHan, then his STHan goes before your Biggs too, which will boost the rest of his team, and... gg. There is a 1/3 chance of pulling STHan, so that shouldn't happen every time. In roughly 2/3 of the fights, he should pull the other members of his team, which generally means the order is his Biggs -> your Biggs -> whatever comes next.

Wait, are you saying that opponent ST Han is even faster than his Biggs?
Or does opponent Biggs go first and call his ST Han to assist?

Is sth getting called on the assist? He gains tm from his basic.

What already happened to me a few time (and it's damn annoying) is that Biggs triple shot call STHan, (in addition to Wedge). Sthan gain 35% turn meter through his basics and goes immediatly after the triple shot, taunting before I can make my first move.

Try to see if it's what happens to you. That could explain why he goes before your Biggs. If SThan assist, there's a good chance he'll gain TM.

This^^

Hitting Sth can reduce tm on your team.

Also sth on assist gains tm.

These 2 reasons are the main things people miss that throw off turn order.

Because many people don't read/understand the abilities and don't necessarily realize that the speed listed is BEFORE any adjustments due to bonuses, abilities or effects, but that it DOES already include all mod bonuses.

And because math is hard. :/
