why can't we sell unwanted gear!!!

I'm writing here because EA replied to an email suggesting I do so,as maybe this can help me to get this suggestion/request to the right person!
I absolutely love the game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, I'm sure I'm not the only player who finds it increasingly frustrating that I never seem to have enough crystals or credits yet I have more sim tickets and useless bits of gear than I'll ever be able to use!
One of my Guild members who has played the game for longer than I have, mentioned that you used to be able to sell unwanted gear much the same way you can sell mods.
Could I suggest this be something that could be considered as it doesn't make much sense to have so much superfluous materials unless they can be used to acquire more useful items.
Here's hoping my suggestion reaches someone who perhaps can change the game play!
Yours gratefully
Marc

Of course they want us to spend money, but having thousands and thousands of some pieces that I dont need is just frustrating, same with sim tickets, i use them every single day yet have over 9000 spare! You can sell unwanted mods, so why not gear? personally I would be more likely to spend actual money on something i was close to completing, if I'd gotten closer to it by selling stuff I keep getting every new day.

Selling or not selling gear is not making a difference in spending. The amount of credits we got for gear previously was a joke, you wouldn't be making enough to really make a difference.

With the addition of the inventory count to the screens for gear, maybe they are thinking about some system, but I dont think its likely from what they have said.

Again, not everyone has 1000s of things, they have to think of those people too. A single credit crunch is better for many than more gear crunches spread out over lower level gear.

Bad comparison, you have a limited amount of space to store in equipped mods, however for sims or gear, the amount is unlimited, as such, it is what it is, And furthermore, getting frustrated over free stuff? Wow...
  • It's not a bad comparison at all, it's bad development to have literally thousands of bits of gear that aren't useful, why should mod space be limited and gear not? Why not put a cap on the amount of gear we can store, same as mods, and allow us to sell when we reach limit, instead of adding to the thousands I already have? Ok, I might sell something I accidently need later, but when they're so abundant, who cares!
As for "Wow, free stuff", useless free stuff is a big free nothing.
  • I didn't play in the days when you could sell, wasn't even aware of the fact until someone informed me so i can't comment on how whether it was worth it or not, i guess Kyno is right, not everyone has thousands spare, but i stand by my point, and i surely can't be the only one who finds it annoying to recieve more and more items
they already have too many of, especially when rewarded for raids or events.

It was also because at the time when the credit heists would come you would get a credit droid or some such thing that you would then need to go to the sell shop and sell to get the credits awarded from doing the heist. Apparently many people did not realize this and just sat on those droids thinking they had got their rewards from the heists when they really didnt.

So with the additional problem of people selling gear they ended up needing, AND the fact that selling gear awarded such a small amount of credits that it was practically useless to sell anything, they just scrapped the whole selling thing.

I would love as many others have asked for, the ability to up-convert gear into a higher version of that gear. Unfortunately its been asked for years now and they haven't even commented on it so I really doubt we will ever get this.

  • Up converting makes a lot of sense, to the players, but not the developers i guess!

This is not the reason. Think about it - you can zeta Chewie, you can sell mods, you can gear CUP to g12. You can do a lot of things that will "hurt" you later, or that are a waste. But you can't sell gear because you might sell a few carbanti you might need later? All of which are purchasable through shipments and shops?

It's fine if they wanted to simplify the game economy, decrease the code footprint and/or reduce time in the game by dropping gear sales and adding the credit heist. In fact, I prefer it this way. But this "to save the players from themselves" argument is pretty hollow. And that's from the point of view of someone who was around and active on the forums when the ability to sell gear was removed.

Back in the day when this was possible, everything you listed was not possible, so that's not a fair example.

What is fair, is people complaining when they sold the wrong thing and they stopped giving the ability to sell.

Just like when people used a zeta accidentally they made it so you have to confirm the zeta.

They are "saving people from themselves" in both cases.

I will agree how they solved something 2 years ago does seem very different then how they would solve something now, but I would imagine many of us would do things differently now, with a 2 year view of hindsight.

    Nonsense.
People accidentally Zeta something and whined about it is a fact. Solution was to add a confirmation button.
People sold gear accidentally and whined about it is a fact. Solution then was to scrap selling gear, and the credits you got for selling were pitiful anyway. Whether there are other underlying reasons why this solution was chosen, I do not wish to speculate or care. It’s a good enough reason for me.
  • I think it's safe to assume you won't get alot of credits in return for you excess gear, making the entire option to sell gear futile.
The initial sale of all the excess gear build up over 2+ years of playing will probably kinda sweet, but even if it's like 30m orso it's still peanuts when you factor in it took 2+ years to accumulate.
so yea, i don't mind having excess gear. It might come in handy later on, you never know.
