All of them aren't obviously...but depending on your goals, a lot of them are. Take for example, farmboy Luke...how many people would prioritize him if it wasn't for CLS? Or BB8 event...the most compelling reason for me to farm the 4 FO that aren't Kylo who is good for raids with his zeta is to get BB8. I don't plan on decking out FO anytime soon because they aren't good in arena and I've better options for raids/TB, so the other 4 required farms for BB8 are useless as far as I'm concerned. I've got quite a few toons I used just for an event...and now they sit...gathering dust and not worth gearing up further because much better options are available.

That isn't the case anymore...take BB8 for example. A handful of people on my shard got him first round because very few people bothered with FO. I doubt many more will get him next go around...because people still aren't bothering with FO. I really don't think BB8 will be wide spread on my shard until FO gets a bunch of new toons with the next movie and we get forced to use them in a DS TB...and in both cases that will mean a >6 month farm for BB8 for most people on my shard.

Nah...its not going to require tons of cash. If you place well in arenas and prioritize it, you can cut the farm time down to way less than a year.
If you want to spend "significant" cash, you already have her 7 starred lol. If you want to whale it out its actually easier than previous legendary events because you can just straight up buy her directly...you don't even have to panic farm NS to get her. I could literally buy MT right now if I wanted and don't have to meet any pre-reqs...you couldn't do that with any other legendaries...you'd have to buy shards for a whole host of other toons, level them, gear them, and then maybe beat the event.

As a newer player all I saw time and time again with the past few legendary events was that if I didn't farm out what were some relatively useless characters I'd miss the requirements. Of course...you could pay to get around it. The catch was though, a lot of those less useful pre-req characters were useful at one point. Take OB for example...if you didn't farm him when he was one of the best leads during the dodge meta...you probably didn't bother with him. Or again...my above example with BB8 and newer players having very little reason to farm FO right now. Meanwhile...people with bigger rosters just met these requirements for no reason other than they had more time to accumulate characters.
So basically new players = spend cash now, old players = congrats you met the pre reqs no cash required.
This goes away with MT. Anyone can have NS ready to go by the time the event becomes monthly...so basically the 2.2m gp account won't get MT any faster than the 500k GP account. This is absolutely awesome and I'm so glad they did this. The deciding factor is now how many crystals will you dedicate to this character, and how much cash will you spend? That is much more fair than "Hey new guy, spend money or get lost, and hey old guy...we know you farmed all those characters for free over the last year because you farmed all the important characters already and just started farming whatever to burn off energy, but what the heck...you meet the requirements to get this stuff for free right now."
Rofl. This isn't new or different, you're just comparing it to the wrong characters. MT isn't the new CLS, she's the new Rex. There were always p2p characters and now there are again. The reason people are annoyed is that the Devs implied with the release cadence that characters that stay p2p for a year won't be a thing anymore. They said after a few months these characters would become freely farmable. Instead they just changed the mechanism, but the result is the same. You want these characters in a reasonable timeframe, better pony up the cash. That's great for you that you're happy to have your advantage for spending cash and crystals, but that doesn't mean the rest of us are wrong to be irritated by what feels like a broken promise.
