Actually it doesn't. Being a new player, there is no link to any disclaimer with an explanation of what happens. New players don't normally go to forums to check things out before purchases, So in essence what you are saying is that any money we spend on the game can be wiped out with no reimbursement. So you are saying that its okay to ignore the people who spend money on the game and lose their money since they are not getting what they paid for. Bad business practice to the pay players.

It does state that characters are merged with a player's current roster and that the bundle contains no shards on the bundle's info page in-game. See below.

It does not mention that the shards for both characters and ships get wiped from one star to the next. So , as an example, I had a character at 45 out of 80 shards and those 45 shards got wiped. If these were not shards added to the characters then those shards should not have been touched.

@RoninRedux The bundle "tops up" the 45 shards you had, and takes them into account when unlocking the unit at 5*.

Only shards over the 145 required to 5* a unit are retained.

If it tops up as you say.... then it is adding shards and blueprints which contradicts the statement that it doesn't add shards or blueprints...
So,If it doesn't add shards or blueprints then it is wiping what you had. If it tops up then it is adding shards and blueprints.
Basically, from what happened to me and this other gentleman, is it is wiping all your purchases from before. So all the money you put into the game has been a waste and it has been taken away from you without compensation or reimbursement.

@RoninRedux The "top up" description is just ChristophIV trying to find a way to describe it for you.

Consider the following situation: A player collects 185 shards for a character but chooses not to unlock it. That player then buys the hyperdrive bundle, gaining a 5-star version of that character. Then that player uses the saved up 185 shards to instantly 7-star the character. This is the sort of situation that is NOT intended by the Hyperdrive bundle, and why the Devs set it up the way they did. So the Hyperdrive bundle is set up to give that player a 5-star, and subtract all shards of that character (up to 145) to prevent players from buying instant 7-star characters.

There was a very detailed blog post, and a fairly substantial (albeit not quite as detailed) description of how it worked in-game. I know before I would spend $100 on something, I'd want to know what I'm buying.

There are some situations in which a player can waste money - for example buying 80 shards worth of a character and THEN buying the Hyperdrive afterwards. However, even if you already had every single character in the Hyperdrive at or above 5 stars, the gear alone in the hyperdrive would cost a player about $350 to purchase, and it comes included. So it's still a great bargain for players willing to buy it.

If you are a new player and don't know about the forums, you go by what you have in game. I did have part amounts of shards and blueprints which also the person above had purchased before the hyperdrive bundle.
My point is that if I would have known that it wiped out the shards purchased beforehand I would have purchased the paid for bundles after the hyperdrive. I bought the other ones to see what the game was like. If I would have, I would have the characters at higher levels. I understand about holding the shards, but the paid for shards should have stayed since they were purchased with outside game monies.

@RoninRedux If you feel a situation like that occurred where you immediately lost value for something that you directly purchased, then I'd reach out to SWGOH Customer Support, explain the situation, and see if they will compensate you for that loss. This is something that might have to be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

I understand that there are situations in which players can "waste" money. As a player, I never want to see that. Give it a shot and see if they'll compensate you! That being said, there is no "bug" here, because the Hyperdrive Bundle treated the character shards exactly as described.

Thank you for the suggestion and I did do that before coming to these forums. That is how I found these forums through customer support. They tried to tell me that to look on the bright side that I got the hyperdrive bundle where I pointed out that if I had gotten the hyperdrive bundle first then the character packages next, then I would have gotten value for my purchases. They did compensate me with some Crystals, but it came no where close to what I lost from the hyperdrive activation. I just wanted to be fairly compensated, which did not happen. It's like going out and fixing up a car then taking it to get painted. You go pick it up and they dented it a bunch of times, but it has a new paint job. You point out that you just got it fixed up and show them the receipts of the work you paid for and they give you a free air freshener and say that's all they can do.
One thing I just wanted to add about an earlier post about the shard wipe. As the earlier post had mentioned about a person having 185 shards before the hyperdrive bundle, if they had done the hyperdrive bundle first and then spent the money on getting the shards that would be okay in your eyes, but since they got the shards before the bundle, it's okay in your eyes to wipe those shards away. Logically, it shouldn't matter. If they paid for something, it shouldn't be taken away.
