Game crashes with 2/12 update...but only certain homes?

I've been one step away from requesting a refund, but I like the Sims and want to play it. I've been hoping for an update to see if the crashes will be fixed, but even with the 2/12, it hasn't fixed the problem. I boot up the game just fine, I click on my home (which has SOME furnishing), and I can maybe walk around for 2 hours in-game before the game crashes to the desktop with no error code. I booted up an NPC home and it doesn't crash. At least not that I could see in the handful of in-game hours I tested it for.

What is going on? Does anyone have any fixes? Does EA know this is a bigger issue than they're saying? I want to play the Sims 1 like I used to when I was a kid.
