The Sims™ Legacy Collection won't Launch - Crashes without error

Hello!

I recently updated my PC to have a RTX 5080 graphics card and AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D processor. It runs Windows 11 Pro.

After reinstalling The Sims™ Legacy Collection, it fails to launch. Crashing immediately, without any error messages. The icon just flashes in the task bar.

I have been looking through the forums and none of the suggestions have been able to help me resolve this issue. I have tried the following:

  • Have the latest version of the game installed
  • Installed  the latest windows updates
  • Updated my graphics card drivers
  • Configured windows to launch the game in low power mode
  • Tried launching the game in Windows XP compatibility mode - as administrator
  • Tried reinstalling the Microsoft redistributables from 2015 and newer.
  • Collected my DxDiag and Vulkan info logs

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Hi to you before the 576.02 update it seems to me that the game worked normally, with the integrated GPU it can work but I don't have an integrated GPU so the game is unplayable for me...

I understand this issue a bit more now. I have learnt that the reason the game can launch while a Nvidia driver upgrade is in progress is because the Nvidia driver is temporarily disabled.

To further verify this I opened Windows Device Manager, navigated to "Display adapters," right-clicked on my NVIDIA device, and select "Disable device". This forced my PC to launch the game with my AMD graphics driver. Which confirms the RTX 5080 is the main issue

    Thanks for the suggestion, LeTanuki91!

I did a few tests with downgrading and upgrading my Nvidia drivers between 576.02 and 576.28 I found that the game would launch only during the driver upgrade process, which is odd haha. But the test definitely suggests that the driver could be related to my runtime crash.

After playing around with the drivers, I am able to get the game to launch somewhat reliably now. But hopefully the game is able to launch with some more stability when new drivers are released in the future

  • Hi, I also have an RTX 5080 and I have the same problem as you, it's since the Nvidia driver update...
