Sims 2 crashes with no error message

I haven't played the game in months, but over the past week I've been trying to play. But within 20 minutes the game crashes with no error message. The EA App will still be open after it crashes. Idk why this is happening. This is what I have done to troubleshoot, but none of these fixed the issue:

  1. I have no mods or cc installed.
  2. I turned off the "optimizations for windowed games" in my graphic settings
  3. I tried turning off shadows in my game but that feature in the setting is greyed out so I can't even try that

Yeah, just delete the Sims 2 folder or move it out onto your desktop, then start up and let the game generate a new one. Sometimes that solves a myriad of issues and sometimes it solves nothing.

I'll try to turn off shadows again, thank you for letting me know about that!

I have not tried generating a new Sims 2 folder. How would I go about that? Delete the old one and just start over? Would I need to completely uninstall and reinstall the game?

  • I'm not sure I have any help for you, but I can say that you can only turn shadows off when you are in a lot. I don't why it's like that, but it always has been.

Have you tried to generate a whole new Sims 2 folder to see if something in the current one is corrupted? It's not as easy to corrupt the game as people once thought, but it does happen.
