Sims 2 Legacy Edition - Sim cannot eat food

Hello!

My Sims game is currently experiencing a bug where Sims cook food and then the food disappears/they sit down to eat served food but then reset themselves and cannot eat the food. I've read that this bug got patched but I'm still experiencing this issue. Is there anything that I can do to rid myself of this glitch? It's making the game almost unplayable because my Sims keep nearly starving to death.
