- Their job will be put on hold.
- As stated above it will be put on hold, basically the home town freezes completely, like if you went to a WA destination :) Your sims job will be still be there when they get back nothing will have changed in the home town at all!
- SimitudeSims12 years agoNew AdventurerIs this confirmed because Twallan said that the university courses are treated like Ambition's careers. You can only have one career at a time so I was wondering if they would do that especially since you will get a career jump when you graduate. If Uni was treated like a vacation then I would say it would be put on hold, but since it isn't,exactly,I don't know.

Twallan wasn't talking about the courses he was talking about the new careers that come with the game. ;)
The courses act like Adventures in World Adventures. You have a amount of progress that must be done to get to the degree. University World is a Subworld much like the World Adventures world. You can't permanently live there. So while you are away at University much like World adventures the homeworld freezes in time. This has been confirmed on the last live broadcast by the gurus themselves.- blewis82312 years agoSeasoned Veteran
For those of you interested in how the University system works :
University Courses are handled as a Career.
Namely, while on "vacation" your sim's occupation is an experience based career called "AcademicCareer", based on the Ambitions career coding
This means, that while it should be possible to use this career to unlock University for homeworlds, your sim will be unable to work a normal job while they are attending courses
It is better than I expected though. I was concerned EA would attach the university system directly to the travel system. They did not, so its all good.
No guarantee yet on whether it can be done, but I will certainly be looking into unlocking the functionality.

Looks like the courses are considered careers in the code. That is why we can't have a local college, can't work and go to school. - My understanding is that *if* I get my Sim a job before she goes to the University, and send her to University on one of her days off, that job is put on hold until she finishes out the term or terms. Then when she returns to the home world, the job is still there waiting for her.
Although Twallan's post makes it sound like your Sim can't have a job and still be able to go to the University, I don't think that's the case. - SimitudeSims12 years agoNew AdventurerI'm sure it can be either way. My point was that it shouldn't be presumed and needs to be confirmed. I, personally, hope they keep their jobs.
- blewis82312 years agoSeasoned VeteranYou don't have to quit the job, it is put on hold until your return. I was just posting what Twallan stated, then I came to the understanding why there is no local college. That is one of the reasons University is in a sub hood.
- So if you've got a self-employed job, you won't be able to progress in that job even if you do it while at college (like if you're a writer or a painter, unless you just save your paintings to sell when you get home).
- If you stay at home while going to university, you keep your job. I have a married couple with a house and two children. One child goes to school, the other to daycare... both adults go to work and school.
