Corrupt files from the Exchange

Is there any way to be able to download files from Exchange without them being corrupt, I've been told that you should use "Add to game" instead of "Save as" but "Add to game" option doesn't work for me, can somebody give me a hand? I've been trying to download this file https://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8975321 If somebody could be able to download it and maybe repack it and upload on a third party website because Exchange butchers it beyond belief.

Thanks in an advance.

  • @Whatevermanitis  I just downloaded and installed the sim without any issues.  I used Firefox and the Add to Game button, so please try Firefox if you haven't already.

You can also try downloading into clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, open the launcher to spawn a new folder, and then download and install the sim, again using Firefox.

If that doesn't help, please let me know where exactly it says the download is corrupt, as well as the packs you have installed.

  • I tried all the browsers I have, including Firefox but no dice, I noticed when I tried to install it in the launcher it was saying that the game was not up to date, but I have all the DLCs, so I looked with Custard and it said "missing DBPF" for, I believe, is custom content such as hairs, because I couldn't see the hairstyle for Formalwear, sliders (I cleaned up broken files with Custard which lead to filesize being reduced from 51 mb to 35 mb). So I gave up on the idea to try to download it through Exchange and thought that maybe someone could upload it here as sims3pack file that won't get disrupted by Exchange or maybe it could be uploaded as .package file if you can extract files with Package Viewer or Package Editor.
  • @puzzlezaddict It works more or less although when I'm trying to extract it with Package Viewer it shows the error for the file 0x9cd5b6be0875d79c401b2b57f0de3e43.package EConvertError: """$ a6ca545"" is not a valid integer value", so I had to use MultiPackConverter. I was also wondering that there are only 2 hairstyles instead of 4, I've managed to find the one for Formalwear but I'm struggling to find one in the picture for Swimsuit.

@Whatevermanitis  Do you own all the packs?  It's possible those hairstyles come with a pack you don't own.  (I don't recognize it, but that doesn't mean anything.)  If you don't think so, I'll check in-game; last night, all I did was confirm that the sim did in fact install.

  • @puzzlezaddict I meant that those two hairstyles are custom, for example the one used in Formalwear is LeahLilith's Navaeh, that's why I want to find the other one used for Swimsuit.

@Whatevermanitis  If you install the Sims3Pack directly and dump the resulting DCBackup files into Mods\Packages, do the missing hairs show up?  You don't have to install the sim this way in your current user folder; you can create a clean one just for this purpose and trash it when you're done.

  • @puzzlezaddict There are only eyeshadows, lipstick, nails (gloves category), pattern, heels, tattoo (socks category), earrings, boots, thigh highs and sim file that contains 3 hairstyles (1 is not being used in those pictures at all) and one that is not showing the value

@Whatevermanitis  I see the same thing, both with simply installing the Sims3Pack and checking out the DCBackup files.  In addition to the missing second braids, I also don't see the buns, just a long loose hairstyle.  Between that and the errors you saw when trying to extract the files from the Sims3Pack, it's possible the other hairs are corrupt, or that somehow the upload didn't use them.  (I don't know how or when those screenshots were created.)

If you really like those hairs and would like to add them to your game, you could try posting a "Where can I find" thread either on the official Sims forums or at Mod the Sims.  It's possible someone will recognize the items and let you know where to find them.  New members can't start a new thread on the officials, but I can start one for you if you like.  Just let me know your username there.  Or go to MTS, which doesn't have the same requirements.

  • @puzzlezaddict Well we can clearly see that author didn't include other 2 hairstyles, it's on a sad part that he didn't link those files. And I would love to start a new topic to find these hairs, but I'm afraid that won't be necessary. It was easier than I expected to find the other one, it's LeahLilith's DreamChase hair. As well as LeahLilith's Harley Quinn's hair that gives sim's face more life instead of "vanilla" hairstyle that author included.
And good looking out, I really appreciate all the help that you've provided.
