HELP SIMS 3 KEEP CRASHING AFTER 5 MINUTES !!

Hi! i recently change to a newer laptop with newer specs. after installing sims 3, i cant play my old save file because every time i load it up, after a few minutes (probably 5 minutes), the app suddenly closes with no warning and ended up on my desktop screen. it only happen with 1 save file, and not the other. Can anyone tell me what's wrong? I've been playing the same save files since ages and kind of hurts if I'm unable to play the same save file anymore.

I've checked my specs/graphic cards/ram, it's all up to date. I also checked my custom mods and CCs, all are fine (all the mods and cc are all the same with the one in my old laptop, which turns on and playing just fine). so can anyone tell me what's wrong thanks!

  • @ivanreagann  How much RAM is Sims 3 using when you've loaded the save that crashes?  Please check the Task Manager after the game clock has run for a few sim-minutes and let me know.

And to clarify, does this same save, in its current state, run fine on your old laptop?  It's one thing if a previous version of the save works, and entirely another if you can play forward from the same point on the old computer but not the new one.

hi! sorry for the very late reply... been busy with exams and things. I checked the task manager right after the loading screen, here's what i got... Sims 3 almost took up 70% of my memory (16 Gigs), to be fair I am running a seemingly large save file (1.03  GB). is that unusual?

About trying to load the save file from my old laptop, I'm unable to do so cause the laptop's not with me no more... sorry! waiting for your reply

@ivanreagann  Sims 3 itself isn't taking up 70% of your computer's memory; that's the total in use.  The game itself is at around 2.8 GB, which is high but not in the danger zone.  On the other hand, the save itself may be so overloaded that it's not playable, and the crashes may be due to something else going on or to a temporary memory spike that the Task Manager doesn't catch.

Do you use NRaas mods, and if so, which ones?  If not, would you be willing to add some?  I would specifically recommend ErrorTrap, Overwatch, Register, Traffic, and MasterController.  The first four do their jobs without player input; MC doesn't do anything unless you use it to issue a command.  If you're willing, install them all, load your save, let the game clock run for a few sim-minutes, then click City Hall and select this:

NRaas > MasterController > Town Options > Reset Everything

Once it's done, let the game clock run for a few more sim-minutes, use "save as" to rename the save (so the original remains intact under its current name), quit, delete the cache files (again, if you have already), and reload.  These are the relevant files to delete:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

Let me know how it goes.
