Re: Sims 3 won't load on EA app, unable to uninstall either

@shurumushurumu  I'd suggest reinstalling Origin, at least for now.  You can download it from here:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Downloading-and-installing-Origin-Windows-and-Mac/m-p/11915666

It's fine to have both Origin and the EA App installed on the same computer; you just can't run them both at the same time.  If you get an error when trying to install or open Origin, restart your computer, or open the Task Manager and kill the EABackgroundService.exe.

If Origin thinks Sims 3 is still installed, you can run a game repair, which should put back any missing files.  It's not as clean as uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game, but it might be good enough, and if not, Origin should allow you to uninstall fully.

The "no packages to install" error is a known issue with a partial workaround; please see page two of this thread:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-Launcher-quot-There-are-no-packages-to-install-quot/m-p/11941548#M252628

If the world your save takes place in is not loading properly, then the "serious error" is a common result.  This can also happen if you try to load a save while an expansion it uses is no longer present, for example if the EA App decides not to load all of your packs.  So while this is a frustrating outcome, it's more a symptom than a separate problem.  If and when you get all your packs and store stuff installed and loading, please test the save again and let me know whether it loads properly.

thanks for the advice! unfortunately nothing seems to work. i tried installing origin again but it won't recognize anything aside from the base game, I'm unable to get to any of my sims 3 packs or worlds, it shows up empty in the launcher and if i try to "install packs" from the launcher it just takes me to the origin sims 3 page. Looks like they really screwed up since a LOT of people are unable to play sims 3 now, I hope they can fix it asap. I've tried everything under the moon for the last few weeks to make my sims 3 launch but no luck. and I'm not playing ts4 lol

@shurumushurumu  I was hoping you wouldn't be affected by the issue of Origin not showing the list of packs, which is less common than the various EA App issues.  But there's no fix for the Origin issue at this point, so it's worth trying the EA App again and seeing if you can get around at least some of the problems.  Please clear the cache data for both the EA App and Origin:

    https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

Then install the App and let me know whether your packs install now (if they're not already downloaded).  And try the workaround for the store content: it does seem to help most people.  But it would be best to only install a few items when testing, just to keep things simple.

@sinderbme  It did work when I posted, over a month ago.  But two days ago, many players were forced to switch to the EA App with no option to keep using Origin.  If you're one of these players, you're unfortunately stuck.

What is your exact issue: that Sims 3 won't open, or something else?  Please describe both the problem itself and what you see on-screen when you try to do whatever it is that won't work.  Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

sorry about the length but i want to be detailed, as although i’m experiencing some very similars issue as many others right now, some aspects of my situation are unique. seems like i chose a very bad time to get back into TS3 :/

after years of not playing The Sims 3 i finally got a nice gaming PC a couple of days ago, and as soon as we got it set up i tried to download Origin and quickly realized it was not possible.

the email connected to my Origin (now EA🙄) account is pretty much used for only that, just Origin/EA for The Sims. so after years of not being touched due to my not playing The Sims, i had to reactivate that email account so that i could sign into EA and verify that it was me. this is after already trying and failing to receive password reset emails from EA earlier that day, but luckily i was eventually able to figure that out on my own. upon reactivating my email account i was informed that i “would start receiving emails shortly” which felt vague but i figured it could take a while so i attributed the EA emails not coming through to that. i spent over an hour requesting verification codes, waiting, refreshing, waiting, requesting a new code, rinse, repeat. zero emails came through. i eventually grew impatient and decided to send myself an email to see if i would get it and it came through right away.

i gave up for the night and decided to contact EA this morning. unfortunately it seems like live chat is no longer available and the only decent option to contact them is by phone call. so, i called them. the man i spoke to was very helpful and sent me verification code and everything no problem. i was excited to have resolved the issue and to be able to finally play TS3 again but now every time i press the play button on the launcher, it just opens the EA app. so when i double click The Sims 3 on the EA app, it opens the launcher. when i double click the play button again on the launcher, it once again opens the EA app. i have yet to find a solution

yes i do actually, that must be the issue. is the patch a safe solution? im not incredibly tech savvy so im of course nervous about the idea installing unofficial patches.

@stepheny1321  The patch is quite safe, having been used by a large number of players since it was released.  Its source code is on GitHub, and the developer has made other widely-used tools like the Smooth Patch, which I've used for almost 18 months without issues.  I completely understand why you'd be cautious, and I would be too, but I promise I wouldn't recommend this if I didn't have confidence in both its safety and efficacy.
