Re: Sims 3 won't open: Alder Lake (Intel 12th-gen) CPU

puzzlezaddict Hi, this thread is prehistoric but if there is any chance for help we really need it. On 1.69.47 version of TS3, tried to run patcher very different ways, tried powershell script (failed), tried task manager issue, but game still will not launch.

This is being run on a 13th gen intel cpu on a laptop with a 4060. Feel like I have tried everything to get the game to run. I have attached what I hope is the correct DxDiag file, if anyone can point us on what to try next...

Thank you

  • zombiepinupgirl  The Alder Lake thread is still active enough, as it's still a problem for disc and Steam installs.  However, it's not a problem for EA App installs—EA patched the game a few months ago—so that's not why you in particular can't play.  I've therefore split your post into its own thread.

Please repair the game in the EA App (Sims 3 > Manage > Repair) to undo the effects of the patch.

Your dxdiag lists a number of crashes of the graphics driver, or one of them.  So please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of both drivers, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Use the newest drivers Asus provides for your laptop:

    https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-g16-2023-series/helpdesk_download/

If prompted, choose G614JV as the BIOS model name.  Under Graphics, download the newest Nvidia and Intel drivers.  The Nvidia driver is a little old but not too much, and you can update it later if necessary, but please test with the Asus-provided driver first.

The proper order of operations here is uninstall the Nvidia driver > uninstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Nvidia driver > restart, all with your computer offline.

If you still can't play, please describe what happens when you try, including a screenshot of any error message.  Please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to open Sims 3.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • So I have tried uninstalling using DDU, I have uninstalled both the Nvidia and Intel drivers I believe. This is the order:

Wifi off > Reboot in Safe Mode > Uninstall Nvidia > Launch DDU again and Reboot in Safe Mode > Uninstall Intel > Reboot laptop, Installed both the Intel and Nvidia drivers > Reboot > Wifi On.

I can try and look for a way to uninstall both simultaneously, maybe the fact that I had to reboot between uninstalls caused issues.

When I initially launch Sims 3 through EA, I get this pop up and have to reopen the Sims Launcher through the tray and then it loops (pressing play opens Ea, opens launcher, but this popup doesnt come up anymore past that first time).

There was no error report that I saw for the time that I launched Sims 3. These are the errors I am getting, the closest to launch was 10:55 (launch was 11:06), attached below.

    Sorry for all the hassle

  • zombiepinupgirl  The "already running" error is popular with Sims 4, but I don't see it often with Sims 3.  For the newer game, it's almost always permissions-related, so please try the suggestions here, applied to Sims 3 of course:

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 already running | EA Forums - 11818313

If you don't want to go through all that at once, start with the new admin Windows account and let me know what happens.

Typically, bad_module_info errors have usually been related to fullscreen optimizations or other weirdness coming from the graphics driver or application.  But that shouldn't have anything to do with the launcher, which doesn't have a fullscreen mode.
