Sims 3 Crashes On Loading Screen

Hello,

I was experiencing issues with my Sims 3, specifically after installing new custom content (CC) and starting to use CC Magic. I would get to the loading screen, where the music would cut off, and the game would crash.

I have since deleted and uninstalled CC Magic, and I have removed all mods from my Sims 3 mods folder. However, I am still getting the same result.

I have also repaired the game and updated all my drivers, but I am still experiencing this issue.

Thank you!

  • SummerSloane  Are you using a mod that requires content that you don't own or that might not be loading?  Some mods have EP requirements, and a few others require Sims 3 Store items.  For example, NRaas Cupcake will crash the game if the Store bakery set isn't present.  MasterController's Progression module requires both the base MC and StoryProgression mods to also be present.

If that's not the issue, please trash your Mods folder and create a new one.  Download a fresh copy of the Resource.cfg file from here (the Resource.zip):

Unzip it, place it in Mods, and download a fresh copy of one mod to test with.  I would suggest NRaas MasterController, the base mod only, since it does nothing unless you use it to issue a command, AND it doesn't require any content beyond the base game.  Let me know whether it works.

  • Hi!

Thank you so much for your help. I restarted from the clean folder and got to the main menu. However, when I added mods back, it crashed again. I then took all my mods out (except for the launcher patch) to go through a 50/50, but even with one mod the game crashed again.

    Here is the dxdiag.

  • SummerSloane  I apologize for the late reply.  If you're still seeing this issue, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If this works, you can start moving your content from the old Sims 3 folder to the new one and testing it.  Once the game is working overall, getting to the Main Menu should be enough to demonstrate that what you moved over isn't broken.

If you get another crash in the clean user folder, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
