Sims 3 crashing on loading screen

I've been through the threads/reddit/EA customer support and believe I have to give up on attempting to solve the issue.

I have one save file that crashes on the loading screen, without fail. It was working just fine the day before and I saved and closed as normal. Today, it is not possible to open this save file anymore.

There is no CC or mods used. I have since redownloaded the Sims 3, emptied the cache, opened the game with the lowest graphics settings in windowed mode -- nada. I'm playing on a Mac, OS up to date. It didn't work in 'safe mode' either.

EA customer support suggested I post here to document that the issue could not be resolved.

If anyone out there knows of some magical way of retrieving the lot I was building, I'm all ears. I logged quite some (read: much too many) hours on this home renovation before the issues started and I would be over the moon to see it again.

  • aeuridice  First, please make sure that the world the save is in is loading properly.  Start a new save in that world, have a look around, and if everything works, it's fine.  If not, let me know what world it is and what happens when you try to play it.

If the world is fine, try loading the backup copy of this save.  Go here:

Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves

And you'll see a folder with your save name plus another folder with the same name and a .backup extension.  Rename this folder and delete the .backup, so it ends in .sims3 , and it will be available to load from the Main Menu.
