Sims 3 Not Working Anywhere

I'm using a Mac.  I already have a PC, but I'm going away and I want to be able to play on my mac while I'm gone.  I have a physical legal copy of the sims and nearly all of the expansions.  I don't have any Custom Content or items outside of the Sim Store.

When I play with the physical disc I get "There is no disc" messages and I can't play the game.

When I download the digital versions from Origin, following all of the trouble shooting advice and all of the EA suggested instructions, it crashes before the loading screen even starts and I can't play the game.

Why do you continue to market this game for Mac when it doesn't work the majority of the time?  We pay good money to legally own this, whereas downloading illegaly causes no problems for Mac and everyone can play smoothly.

I want to be able to play my game.

PS.  It's complete crap that half of the "Support" responses are just "Uninstall and download it again", it can take up to 12 hours to download the base game from Origin.

  • Hey there,

I would suggest you to uninstall The Sims 3 and all of its expansions from your computer and install them using your discs. After that, if you still get "No Disc" error, there is a mod that can help you bypass the CD authentication. As you already purchased the games, I don't think it will be a problem for EA. Just google Sims 3 No CD mod and download it.

If your issue gets resolved, please notify me.

    Good Luck.

I think Yenial is right - try a fresh installation. In fact I would try just installing the base game first and see how that goes.  It sounds as though you've been trying to install both from discs and from Origin, perhaps things have just got messed up. Make sure you do a clean uninstall (read BluebellFlora's guide here: http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/) to make sure you properly get rid of all stray files and can be sure of a fresh start.

Try installing the base game from disc and patching up to date, then take it from there.

  • This is my issue guys.  I have followed all of these suggested links before and it continues to happen.  I've had the sims since it originally came out and have never had problems until the recent patches.  I just think it's absolute crap that users keep having these problems and the developers tend to rely on outside parties to create things to fix it.  If I'm going to pay good money for a product I expect it to work without issue everytime there's an update.

I'm trying to no cd mod now after another clean install of only the base game + 1 expansion and problem still happening.

Alright, give the mod a shot. Even though that is not the "absolute" fix, it may help you. If you have any furhter questions about how to use or install the mod, you can ask me.

Here is the link to the mod: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/NoCD

Please keep me updated about your issue.
