  • @cathyyphan  I've moved your thread to the Sims 3 Mac section.

Have you tried bypassing the launcher?  Please do so, or if you're already doing it, please undo the change, at least to test.

If that doesn't help, undo the change, then run the Super Patch (digital download version), which should fix any issues with the game's program files.  If you've taken steps to get your graphics card recognized, please save copies of graphicscards.sgr and graphicsrules.sgr, and add them back once the Super Patch has run—it will undo any changes you've made to those files.

If this doesn't help either, please create a new admin user account on your Mac and try to play in that account.

While testing, please let the game create a new Sims 3 user data folder each time: move the older one to the desktop, or just trash it if it doesn't have any content you want to keep.

@cathyyphan  Do you get the same error whether you bypass the launcher or not?  Have you installed any new content recently, or updated your Mac?  If you have any antivirus/firewall running, please disable it temporarily; if you have any cleaner apps on your Mac, please let me know, and get rid of them.

Please also try launching while your computer isn't connected to the internet, as in, disable the wifi entirely.

@puzzlezaddictI have bypassed the launcher before this whole problem happened and I have not updated my Mac but I did download some content but I don’t think they are the problem they seem to be doing fine but I was thinking I’d I could download like a cleaner for the content but idk any for Mac any suggestions is good 🙂

but this is also kinda off topic but now my game every time I start launching it I just have a black screen and my cursor and idk what’s going on

@cathyyphan  Please move the entire Sims 3 user data folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher (please undo the bypass for now), a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can load a new save.

Please don't install a cleaner app.  Most of them do more harm than good in macOS—they have a tendency to delete essential system files along with everything else.

@cathyyphan  Then that means there's something in the folder you moved that's causing the problem.  You can add back your old content in batches, testing each time to see whether the game still works; any batch that causes an error needs to be split and tested again until you've found the problem file(s).  Here's a complete list of everything in your user data folder:

@cathyyphan  Did you add any of your old content back immediately before you got the black screen?  If so, you might have added a corrupt file.  You can test all your content in another clean folder in batches; any batch that causes a black screen needs to be split and tested until you find the problem file(s).

If this isn't the issue, please check your iCloud settings to make sure your Documents folder isn't being automatically synced with cloud storage.  It's fine to have iCloud enabled; the problem is the auto sync.
