Will the Sims 3 work on my new Macbook Pro?

Hey guys, I just bought a new Macbook Pro with retina display the other day. I haven't had a personal computer for quite a long time, so i'm very excited to download and start playing the Sims once again. I've been doing research, and I've ultimately decided to purchase the Sims 3 starter pack instead of the Sims 4 (This is mainly due to all the expansions, and the free roam around the entire town). I've noticed a lot of people have had problems with Sims 3 on Macs though, and that Intel Iris is not good for the sims 3? If someone could please tell me if I could run the game smoothly on my Mac it would be greatly appreciated!

Here's my Mac Overview Specs

* OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.4

* Processor - 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

* 16 GB Memory 1600 MHz DDR3

* Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Graphics

This is a 15 inch Retina Mid 2015 Model Mac

So will it run well? Would it maybe be better to get the Sims 4 instead? I read Sims 4 will run better but is it true? I really would like to have Sims 3 due to the wonderful $19.99 price and the expansions I could buy as well. Thanks for answers in advance!

    The Sims 3 is not compatible on Macs which only have integrated Intel Iris graphics. If you would like to play the game on your Mac with these graphics you have to edit the GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files. Instructions can be found here. Whilst this fix is working for some, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for everyone.

    The Sims 4 works fine but your Mac may struggle as the game progresses and you add more EPs as you have integrated graphics (dedicated graphics are preferable when it comes to gaming).

    The Sims 3 was not native to OS X, hence all the problems. The Sims 4 is.
