#BnS155 - Down on the Farm

The first thing you notice about your newest clients, the Grangers, is that while they’re dressed for a day in the country, their clothes look brand new and freshly ironed. It is almost as though the couple were dressed in costumes.

“Hello, welcome. Please sit down and tell me what I can do for you.”

The two glance at each other, and Amelia nods to her husband, William, indicating that he should do the talking.

“We’ve decided living in the city is getting too expensive, so we’re looking to move to the country.”

“It’ll be safer for our kids, plus all the fresh air and wide open spaces will be good for them. I’ve always wanted them to have a yard to play in,” Amelia adds.

“I grew up in the countryside, and decided it’s time I go back. I’m planning to try my hand at farming. I’ve always wanted to be more self -sufficient, there just isn’t much room in the city to grow your own food. We’re going to try canning fruits and vegetables too.”

“And I’ll be able to focus full time on my crafting - knitting, embroidery, painting. I’ve been told I could earn money selling my creations online, so I want to try. It’ll be much more fun than being stuck in a stuffy office doing boring work. No offense.”

“None taken. What did you do before?” You ask, curious.

“I was an accountant until I got laid off. See? I told you, boring,” Amelia says with a quick laugh.

“And I was a scientist,” William adds.

You nod, taking in the information. “What do you have in mind for your new home?”

“A simple farmhouse with enough bedrooms for our future children. Room for several crops, of course,” William says.

“And plenty of outdoor space for our children to run and play. There should be room for a small pond somewhere on the property - Will loves to fish,” Amelia adds.

“An office for Amelia’s new online business. We don’t need a lot of electronics other than the computer though. We want to keep everything as simple as possible to conserve energy.”

“That’s a good idea. How many bedrooms do you need?”

“Three? Or maybe four? Can you do that for $120,000?” Amelia asks hopefully.

“We can,” you assure her. “Your new farm should be ready in a month.”


THE BRIEF

I went for a rustic, homey modern farmhouse look, in line with the Grangers’ request for a simple farmhouse. But I also threw in some modern, funky paintings and home accessories to reflect how the Grangers were from the city.
Key features include 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a conservatory, a home office, a playroom and a large backyard with a pond and a play area.

ENTRY DETAILS: Granger Farmhouse is an American style farmhouse built on a 50x40 lot in the Henford-on-Bagley countryside. Outside, it has a large fishing pond, a garden for all your fruits and veg, and plenty of yard space for the entire family to enjoy. The interior is very cozy and homey with a large living room, an office full of creative items, three big bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms.

ENTRY DETAILS: I tried placing this home on a number of different lots in various sizes. 64 X 64 lot was too large and 40 x 30 was too small. I didn't care for the locations of the 40 X 40 lots in my game and so I figured out that the 50 X 50 lot was perfect and despite the land costing $25K and taking so much of the budget, I still feel it was a good choice and worth the cost. The appearance of a dirt road in front of the farm allows a fairly seamless transition from the neighborhood into the lot. The surrounding trees and nearby bayou add to the aesthetic of a working farm very well. This is the second farm in a row I've created for BnS, so I can't lie, I am really ready to move on. But I still enjoyed creating this and it feels close to my heart because I grew up in a rural area of Kentucky and near the Kentucky River and our house was located on the edge of the neighbor's dairy farm. I spent a lot of time in my dad's vegetable garden and a lot of time sitting on the big, shaded porches of relative's and neighbor's homes and listening to "the grown folks visit." When I was in middle school I spent my Christmas breaks working in a tobacco stripping room to earn money to buy Barbie dolls. I'm very familiar with farm life and miss those relatives with those big houses and farms that we spent time on.

ENTRY DETAILS: This old Carriage house overlooking Brindleton Bay became a perfect place for Karl to renovate for the Grangers to create a new life in the Country. The lower floor of the carriage house has been turned into a production floor that turns their produce into Fizz and Kombucha, taking advantage of Williams Scientist background. Also on the lower floor is a shop for selling both the Produce, Fizz Drinks, and Amelia's Craft creations. Behind the shop is the office for both Amelia and William to work, and meet clients. Upstairs boasts a spacious home for the Grangers, and their two Kids, Rhys and Marley. A large kitchen, flows into a Dining space, that flows into a living space. Marley
s bedroom is located near the front door, and an extra bedroom turned craft room for Amelia. All the other bedrooms are located on the other half of the home, with a large master wing. a large upper deck/balcony gives the Grangers some personal outdoor space, while also giving a great view of the farm and scenery. A large field for growing plants, and an orchard off to the side of the home. a small pond for fishing can be found in the corner of the lot, and a hidden playground for the kids.

ENTRY DETAILS: Based off farms on the west coast this home has a little of everything PLUS all the farm living you could wish for. Chickens, cows, llamas, and pond fish dot this gem. It's also off the grid serviceable with water cultivation and eco-living amenities. There's a huge barn and fun activities like horseshoes and fishing. The home is landscaped with nature in mind and cows are at the heart of the decor of the home.

I built and lovely four bedroom, three bath farm house for the Granger’s and their doggie Leia. It has a nice country feel to it. A garden area to grow crops, a chicken coop and animal shed to have all the chickens and farm animals you can handle. There is a nice pond in the back for Mr. Granger to go fishing in. It also has 2 solar panels and a wind turbine to be eco friendly as well as a recycler. Art work by #Nessiesim, #mnewi1103, AlJay2000.

ENTRY DETAILS: I went completely off the rails with this one. I built a modern farmhouse on a 64x64 lot, a full working farm with tons of space for produce, livestock, chickens and pets. The children have plenty to do without ever touching any electronics. This home has room to grow, If the family has more children they can start using the attic as living space.

ENTRY DETAILS: Meet the Grangers, A City couple who have just moved to the Country, to open up their own farm. They have named their farm Granger Groves. William used to be a scientist, and now uses his skills to ferment and produce Fizz and Kombucha, using their organic produce. Amelia used to be an accountant, and uses those skills to helps with the farm's books, and runs a little online crafts business. They have two children named Rhys and Marley. ENTRY DETAILS: I imagined a tuscan-style farmhouse for the Grangers, with plenty of free space around the estate for the kids to explore. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms, one with its own entrance from the outside. This could be the guest room for now, or if all the bedrooms are needed later, it could be the master bedroom, or even later it could be that of their biggest, already independent child. They want to keep everything as simple as possible to conserve energy, so the house only has one TV and one computer, and the garden has its own well with clean fresh water.

ENTRY DETAILS: I built the farmhouse earlier in the month and then let it sit until yesterday when I came back and did the landscaping. I ended up with more money left over than I was expecting - evidentially the base game rocks no longer cost an arm and a leg to purchase - and decided to leave it as I felt the build was finished.

ENTRY DETAILS:
I have chosen to build William and Amelia a traditional farmhouse style home. I have elevated the house and built a retaining wall around the home. With plenty of rain in the area and a pond on the property we would hate to ever see the home flood. As mentioned, there is a pond on the property; this offers fresh water as well as a place for William to fish. There is an animal shed and chicken coop, a barn for storage and also a place where Amelia can work on some crafting items. There is a greenhouse and a garden with bees for William to grow and study plants, as well as a flower arranging table if they decide to get into that as well. The home is not off grid but it is designed in a way that they can choose that option if living expenses get too high (I know that the family had hoped to save money but property taxes are quite expensive when you have a large area of land). The home has an open concept living space, a large country kitchen with a walk in pantry to store their canning and simple living food items. It has a music room, crafting office for Amelia, 3 bathrooms, as well as 3 bedrooms on the second level for the family.

This family was a lot more work than I was expecting but I personalized the house for them so I figured I should share the family as well.
William and Amelia have 3 children. Isabella is the oldest and they also have twin boys, Joseph and Benjamin. They have a sheepdog named Gus as well. William is a genius. He loves spending time outdoors with his garden and plants. He also loves to spend his spare time reading. Amelia loves to paint. She is crafty, creative and is an animal lover. Isabella loves art and she loves animals just like her Mom. Joseph wants to be the smartest kid in the school and he is a genius just like his father. Benjamin is an active boy who loves the outdoors and Gus is their friendly, loyal, and hairy Shetland sheepdog.

#BnS156 - Home for Winterfest

A knock on your door draws your attention away from the window, where you are watching the first snow of the season and hoping no one is stuck out there in the cold, without any shelter.

“Come in,” you call, turning.

The older couple who enters holding hands looks tired, worried and hopeful all at once. The man speaks up first. “Hello, I’m Thor DeWinter, and this is my wife, Neva. We’re not used to asking for help, but in this case, I’m afraid we have to,” he says.

“Of course. How can I help?”

He glances at Neva, who squeezes his hand and nods encouragingly.

“We just got custody of our six grandchildren when their parents died unexpectedly.”

“We love having them all over to visit,” Neva interjects. “Please don’t get us wrong, we’re happy to do what we can to raise them.”

“It’s just that our two-bedroom condo wasn’t meant for a family of eight. There are no other children in our building, and little to keep them occupied once watching TV and reading becomes boring,” Thor continues.

“I understand. What do you need?”

“A larger house. One with room for everyone. We couldn’t eat Harvestfest together in the apartment. If we stay until Winterfest, the tree will be in the dining room and the presents in the living room,” Thor replies.

“We’d like at least three bedrooms, as many as five if possible, so the two oldest, Mazin and Gale, can have their own space. A dining room large enough to seat eight would be ideal. We’ll need at least three bathrooms to cut down on wait times.”

“We don’t ask for much, just to get out of the apartment so our neighbors will stop complaining about the noise,” Neva adds. “Oh, I’d love a little garden. I gave up gardening as a career, but I like to keep my hand in.”

“I think we can handle that,” you say, feeling for this obviously loving if struggling family and wanting to help any way you can.

ENTRY DETAILS: This three story home has it all for the DeWinters to enjoy. Lush yard with gazebo for Neva's garden. Space for swingset and bicycles plus toddler pool and jacuzzi. Outdoor kitchen, picnic tables and lounging area perfect for entertaining friends. The inside has a natural aesthetic and I used a multicultural family picture as inspiration. The children's level on the second floor transfers them into another world--meadow for toddler room, forest for children then onto fantasyland and space in the playroom and finally into the jungle and ocean in their bathroom. The teens have the topfloor with large screen tv, snack area and their own rooms that fit their tastes.

Thor collects holiday cracker prizes. Two are displayed in the kitchen, and two unopened holiday crackers are on the mantle. Neva loves to play video games on the computer and she’s hoping that Father Winter will bring her a new console for Winterfest so she can play with her grandchildren (she already has a big TV and game controllers, her outdoor garden is great because she loves the outdoors, and plenty of toys and activities for her grandchildren are strewn around the house, inside and out. Teen, Mazim requested squash soup for Winterfest dinner because he’s a vegetarian. As the other teen, Gale is a perfectionist, especially when it comes to makeup, which is kept on her dresser. However, the family just found out that Mazim is allergic to dogs, but not to cats, so for Winterfest, a cat will be joining the family, and when Gale wants to pet/play with a dog, she can walk over to nearby Pupperstone Park in Brindleton bay (there’s a new shower going in there right after Winterfest so she can get all the allergens off her skin/clothes and she can bring a new set of clothes in her backpack.) A genius child, Ramiel loves to play chess with his grandparents. His sister Elysia, also a child, loves to play on the monkey bars or read, so her grandparents were sure to include monkey bars and plenty of books for her. The toddlers, Storm and Rain, are silly and clingy, but both love their rooms, their tablet and their toys. In addition, there are 2 bathrooms outside., but three are full baths inside the house.

More backstory according to me: Thor's cousin Loki and his wife Valkeria had made their living running a small, friendly and very clean private motel. The small motel had sort of run its course as a viable business and Valkeria wanted to retire but who would buy the property? It was decided that Thor's family and Loki's family would trade properties. Thor and Neva now have plenty of space for the their grandchildren and everyone's interests.

ENTRY DETAILS: This beautiful plot is one of my favorites, it is close to the sea, it provides a lot of outdoor activities and is also big enough for a multi-bedroom house. Two bedrooms on the first floor can be accessed from the entrance hall via a small hallway. Here is the main bedroom for grandparents and the two smallest's common bedroom next to each other. I wanted these two rooms downstairs so that grandparents and little ones wouldn’t have to climb a lot of stairs and be close to each other. Both have their own bathroom. There are 3 more bedrooms on the second floor, the two oldest children have their own rooms with private bathrooms. The home have many terraces, a hobby/playingroom for the children on the third floor, and lots of play option at the backyard. All home decorated for Winterfest.

I have left the 1st-floor landing walls bare so that they can start placing their own photos there and create new memories. ENTRY DETAILS: I have built a rustic country home with an industrial flair to the interior of the home for the DeWinter Family. The main living space is open concept with a large kitchen and dining room that can hold up to 8 people. The master suite is also found on the main level of the home. The second level is a private space made especially for the teenagers. It also has a study that Thor can escape to, if he finds the house too "people-y". The walk out basement is where all the activity is. There is a family room with plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. A laundry room and three more bedrooms. Each children's bedroom is uniquely designed to fit each child's interests. There is a bathroom for the toddler's to share and another for the children to share. The yard has a hydro garden for Neva, a playground, gazebo, hot tub, fire pit, and an ice rink for the family to enjoy as well. I have given the lot the homey, good schools, and child's play traits.

#BnS157 - Winter Designer Showdown

You are working on a fairly involved design.

An IM from Karl pops up: Two really sweet young people were walking by and are wondering if you would see them?

You type back: Sure, bring them in.

Dylan and Sally sit opposite you; they express their appreciation to you for seeing them.

“Of course, so how can I help?”

Dylan explains: “Sally and I have $22000 for a lot and house. We are kind of crafty/artistic gardeners and would like to be able to generate an income from home.”

“What style or location do you have in mind?”

Sally looks a bit worried but she adds-in an important detail: “My parents are going to a container auction in a couple days, they are gifting us a container of furnishings. We want where we live and the style of our house to work well with the free items. Also, if possible, we would like to re-purpose the empty container as a means of earning an income.”

“So, you don’t know what they will pick for you?”

Sally shrugs: “No idea”

“No problem! We can choose a lot, get your container delivered and build a house to suit your needs. It will be ready for you in about a month,”

Dylan is so happy. He jumps up, shakes your hand and says: “Thank you! This is going to be great.”

Purchase a lot and place your container. You can place your container on the ground, on dunnage or on a low foundation or platform. You can add a roof, windows, door, stairs if needed to access the door and re-paint the container if you like. Sally’s parents are paying to get your container situated. Your container must be free standing. It cannot share walls with your house. Your container is a space for Dylan and Sally to generate income. Some examples could be: a greenhouse, a massage studio, a painting or photo studio, or a woodworking space.
You now have 22000 minus the lot cost to build a functional home and equip your container. Please try to use the furnishings provided. You can recolour them if you like. My oh my, this was quite the challenge! With the couple's §22,000 total budget, we had to be very strategic in providing them everything they need. Once we nailed down the essentials, we were able to develop the accents and landscaping.
My approach to this build was to provide a contemporary aesthetic for the repurposing of a shipping container. Sally’s parents graciously allowed me to select a container on their behalf, and we were very fortunate! We had been gifted with neutral rustic kitchen pieces that provide a cozy and lived-in feel. A bright and fresh colour palette allows for pops of colours in various locations. We decided on yellow for the main house and green for the shipping container work studio.
Since the budget was solid, the bathroom is a clean and open area for ease of maintenance and cleaning. The open staircase allows the room to feel larger instead of closed off. Upstairs, a lovely textured rug provides warmth to the couple’s bedroom.

This green-thumbed-woodworking-young-couple is ready to conquer the world together. After receiving a new home, they knew that they had to get their closets in order. Both are equally fashionable and expressive. Neutral colours, texture and fun shapes are things they always consider when putting an outfit together.
Dylan and Sally tend to wear similar colour palettes because they enjoy being photographed together and love to show off their collective aesthetics.
Sally is a fan of long draping clothing as well as fit and flare shapes. She has curves and loves to show them off. Dylan is a tad on the preppy side but loves to be comfortable. He thoroughly enjoys showing off his sneaker collection!

***NOTE*** I didn't realize we didn't have to count the container into our budget so my budget is $13000 lower than it should have been but I'm not redoing it since I like how low cost the build is for my followers.
I created the container space for Sally's vlogging about knitting and gardening. The gardening area is inside the container as I placed a clear roof to let the sun in. The lot has a nice pond in between the home and the container with cool lanterns lighting the night and shimmering in the water. There's a few balconies for the couple to enjoy the view. I had to delete a few of the items in the container to keep within budget and I wish I had those now, but oh well! Next time I won't be so quick on the brief and see what others are doing. Lol!

Dylan and Sally have moved into their new home. They found an abandoned car, boat and two bikes in the woods, which are on their property now. Their comfy forest home sits in the middle of a special island in Windenburg, which is surrounded by trees to suit their personalities and container (a painting studio).
Both Dylan and Sally have the painter extraordinaire aspiration. While Sally is an art lover, creative and paranoid, her husband Dylan’s traits are erratic, clumsy and creative. They both share the love of painting (on the easel and the sketchpad, so both can produce income at the same time, and both are creative. Sally, an art lover, is paranoid, while her husband Dylan is erratic and clumsy (he drops his drippy, wet paint brushes on the floor sometimes, and has fallen off the treadmill several times, so Sally bought a penguin TV for him do exercise on the floor doing exercise videos).
They share symptoms of Strangerville residents, although, they have slightly different diagnoses, but they prefer to live on the island in Windenburg, which is more isolated. The house has great ocean views, since the Windenburg island is, in fact, an island. Everyone else on the wooded island moved out when the couple moved in because Dylan and Sally prefer to be alone. The house is small, and the container is smaller, still. However, it’s perfect for them, and they are ecstatic that her parents purchased the perfect container for them to use to finally generate an income from painting. The artwork in the container was created by Dylan and Sally prior to moving in. It was the only surviving art from Sally’s parent’s basement, where the couple had stored their artwork while they were dating and engaged.
A flood ravaged the majority of it, but these few pieces, which Sally’s parents had kept the highest off the ground in their basement. Now, her parents have invested in a sump pump because they realized the dire need for it after most of their items in storage in the basement, including Sally and Dylan’s artwork were destroyed in the flash flood.
The house has one bedroom (with a fireplace) and bathroom on the second floor, and a kitchen, dining area, living room and study on the first. Pops of yellow and sprays of sunflowers pump some cheer into their tiny abode.

Dylan and Sally are twins. At a young age they found out they both loves gardening. While helping their mom in the garden they once discovered a fossil, which started Sally's interest in archeology. They kept looking for more fossils, but didn't find any in their mom's garden. A few plants were sacrificed in the name of science. Luckily they outgrew that phase...or did they? Now that Dylan and Sally are adults they are about to move out. Both still love gardening and love art. Dylan loves painting, while Sally is more interested in restoring art especially artifacts she dug up. thats why the twins moved to Selvadorada. There Dylan hopes to find new inspiration for his art, and Sally wants to make some new discoveries. They will earn money with the plants they frow in the shed and the artifacts Sally restores. Dylan sleeps upstairs where he will be able to grab a paintbrush the moment he wakes up. Sally sleeps downstairs. The twins received a container from their parents which they used for the house. They sold a few items, but kept most. They can't wait to move into their new home, which is called La Bienhallada (which means the welcome)!

ENTRY DETAILS: Minka 4-2 is a traditional country Japanese house for a couple. The container I picked cost was $17,583 so plus $22,000 gave me a total of $39,583 to spend. I imagine Dylan and Sally as a young modern couple who loves the nature, outdoors and gardening but at the same time they love to share their lifestyle as youtubers and as bloggers, and why not? to get some incomes from that, so they gave a makeover to the container to fit with the house style and placed there a study room and a youtuber studio and a small bathroom in the middle. Valentine Love smiles widely at you. “I have been looking everywhere for the best place to propose to my beloved Amanda. It has to be just right, you see, and unique. But nothing suited us. Then I hit upon the perfect solution: I could have one built!”

You sit up straighter, intrigued, anticipating a new challenge. It has been a while since you have had the opportunity to build something other than a house and you welcome the change of pace, wanting to help this young couple. “Oh? What did you have in mind?”

“Something small, intimate and romantic. An outdoor proposal area with lights, music and flowers. I would also like a covered area to eat either before or after.”

Valentine Love has finally found the perfect place to propose to his soulmate, Amanda Heart. Valentine had this place built, so that it would be perfect. His wish for flowers galore, music and lights in an outdoor proposal area (under the pink tree) has plenty of flowers and their favorite classical music on his grandma's grammaphone. There's even a covered heart-shaped space to eat a meal after he proposes!
The evening started in the proposal "room." Of course, Amanda said, "yes!" Then, they moved into the pond "room" to look at the swans and to "whisper sweet nothings." Next, the couple, check out the wishing well "room." Their wish for a child came true. They have 24 hours to pick the child up at the adoption agency. After that, they "tried for baby" in the hot tub "room," and surprise --- Amanda is eating for two! Speaking of eating, the couple finished up the evening by eating food from the buffet table and chatting before retiring to their nearby home for the night. Oh, but first, the need to pick up the child the adopted. Before the elopement or wedding (they haven't decided yet, they need to build the child a room and the baby a nursery.)
So, Valentine and Amanda have gone from dating, to becoming engaged to becoming parents of at least two children! Now, off to plan the wedding/elopement!

Love and hearts are both in the air (or should I say in the proposal garden that the couple had built for their proposal.
Valentine Love has finally found the perfect place to propose to his soulmate, Amanda Heart. He has the soulmate aspiration, while she is a musical genius. He's romantic, and she's creative. However, they both share the family-oriented and loves outdoors traits.
She likes pink, while he likes red. However, they both like classical music and gardening. Both of them like to wear hearts in any piece of clothing they can. He even has heart-shaped glasses!
Oh, and one more thing: The couple just eloped in their proposal garden after a few days when the children became children. They will plan a vow renewal for the very near future, so that their adoptive and biological daughters can be the flower pal and ring bearer. Now, that's going to be one difficult coin toss for the girls!!

Mr. Love requested a "unique venue" to propose that suited him and his beloved Amanda. Doing my research; I discovered that Valentine works as a writer and loves to study and write about history, an avid historian! Amanda's passion is archeology and they both love the outdoors. This led me to the ancient ruins of Windenburg. An excellent location for the couple! The place was a mess when I got there, but I was able to make it the perfect venue for the couple. The ruins are quiet and private. The couple will not experience random sims interrupting them here. I have added public washrooms and a kitchen for them to hire a caterer. There is a covered dining space for the couple, as requested, and a stage for them to have live music. There is a bar and a bubble elation station in the venue as well. #BnS159 - Little Green Men

“Hello. Come on, sit down.”

You stand to greet the family of four who walks into your office with a friendly smile. The two children, a girl and a boy, wander around, checking out the bookshelf and looking out the window. The boy picks up a small animal statue and examines it as if he has never seen a horse before.

The girl notices the view out the window and settles down to watch the ducks in the pond.
Since they’re staying out of trouble, you turn your attention to their parents. “Mr. and Mrs. Greene, correct?”

For almost a minute, there was silence as the pair gaze intently at you. Then the woman judges her husband, as if to remind him to speak up.

“Oh! Yes. I am Martin Greene. My wife, Marlene. Our children Marcia and Marcell.”

“A pleasure to meet you,” you say. Before another word can be spoken, Marcia discovers the wand that controls the blinds and begins playing with it.

Her mother turns her head toward the new noise and frowns until Marcia stops.

It is only later that you realize Marcia never looked at her mother during the entire exchange. “What can I do for you?”

“We just moved here and are looking for a house. So far, we have not found one to suit us. We thought perhaps you could build us something that reminded us of the home we left behind,” Martin explains.

Martine - no Marlene- nods. “The houses here - they are so boring. All squares and rectangles. We prefer interesting shapes - triangles, hexagons, octagons,” she explains.
“We will of course accept right angles as necessary,” Martin is quic to add. “It doesn’t have to be very large, just big enough for our family to live comfortably and have space to pursue our hobbies.

“I love flowers. You have such an amazing variety here, did you know that?” Marlene asks.

“I do,” you reply, reminding yourself to stop and smell the roses the next chance you get. “What sort of budget am I working with?”

“Will $90,000 be enough?”

“Yes.”

“Thank you. We will return in one month - we understand that is how long this will take?”

“That’s right.”

“Good-bye.”

Minutes later, you are busy working on a blueprint when a strange noise reaches your ears. You look out the window just in time to see four green-skinned figures enveloped in a bright light and lifted toward a waiting spaceship.

Somehow, you are not surprised. It has been many years since your last alien encounter, but you still remember Donnell Indigo. You can’t help but wonder if the Greenes are as green as their name implies.


THE BRIEF


Budget: $90,000.
The house should include shapes other than simple rectangles and squares.
Build at least three bedrooms
The house needs a kitchen, living and dining areas
Include space for the Greenes to pursue their hobbies.
Landscaping should include plenty of flowers for Marlene.

ENTRY DETAILS: I have chosen to build a futuristic looking home for the Greene family in Strangerville. There are many uniquely shaped rooms throughout the house, but mostly octagons; the decks and roofs are all circular. I covered nearly the entire house in windows, so there are not many wall items in this home. I have added many skill building items for the family to discover potential new hobbies, but they all love playing video games at the moment, so I gave them a big screen TV and two large curved couches so they can enjoy their gaming time together. The house has a high end security system, with an intercom system installed in each bedroom and by all exits. The yard has space for Marlene to garden, as well as create her flower arrangements. There is a place for the kids to play and a circular patio for the family to enjoy a meal outdoors. The home has many Eco features and has the Eco, good soil, and geothermal lot traits as well as the Reduce and Recycle challenge.

ENTRY DETAILS: The Greene family is very excited to begin a new chapter in their life in their new home in Strangerville. Martin was an astronaut and after making a major arrest he has received The Oath Of Honor, but unfortunately he was forced to resign from his career because of it. This has given the family opportunity (and the money) to move to a different planet and experience new things. Martin wants to discover the secrets of Strangerville. ENTRY DETAILS: I decided to take two kernels of wisdom from design of older houses for this custom build. First, a large central dining room, second, a foyer to greet guests. This house from the top down looks a bit like a propeller or some kind of blades. This is to denote air travel. There is a central circle with four triangles that have triangular bump outs. The basement is an octagon. I imagine this family enjoying shows like the Jestsons or the OG Star Trek. They would find these extremely funny. I used the 60s SciFi/Futuristic MCM style as it will be something this family appreciates. The family really like triangular closets, I'm not sure why but it's their thing.

Another spring designer showdown!

This time, your task is to complete this unfinished shell. Pick any lot size 30x30 or larger. You may rotate the shell any way you want. You can change the interior walls, but do not move the exterior ones.

Decks, patios and balconies can be added.

To give it a spring twist, you must use the color green somewhere in the build at least twice.

Flowers, baby animals, and anything else you associate with spring are also encouraged.

ENTRY DETAILS: For my Spring Designer Showdown Creation, I chose to go with what I know best. A country style home. I chose to build in Tartosa, on the 'La Coppa Serena lot. I have fallen in love with " My Wedding Stories " New world. In looking at the shell - I thought it a challenge to keep the floor plan. The fact that there was a cost cap did not even deter my creativity. ( I used debug for the landscaping and other objects came from there too ) I accomplished all I wanted with this build. I took the suggestion of using Green in 2 rooms, to a new high by using green as a style statement in more than several rooms, and used the colour in bedding , window treatments , furniture styles & flooring.. ENTRY DETAILS: I chose to go with a modern design for this challenge (All the random corners on the shell nearly did me in on this one). The home is designed for a couple who like to host parties. The house has a large open concept living and kitchen area, a gym, office, two spare bedrooms (each with an attached bathroom and deck), and many different outdoor areas to relax and enjoy all the activities placed throughout the property. I have added many decks and a few columns to the structure of this house. There is even a rooftop grilling and party deck. I have used pastel colors to decorate the interior of the house because they make me think of spring. Nearly every room in the house has green incorporated into it in some way.

Your newest client is the most unusual yet. From head to toe, he is dressed as if he stepped from the pages of a history book. His outfit would have been the height of fashion 80 to 150 years ago. The jacket, shirt, tie, pants and shoes look new and well-made, not old. This is clearly not a costume.

You show no surprise, though you are curious. “Hello, sir. How can I help you?”

“The name’s Wells, Herbert George Wells. I was testing my new time machine and found myself stranded here,” he says.

“Oh! Then the time machine is real?” you blurt out.

He gives you an affronted look. “Of course it is. Now then, it will take me some time to fix the machine and get home. In the meantime, I need a house. One that reminds me of my own time. I have made the acquaintance of a lovely young woman who calls herself a student of history. In the event I choose to remain here, we will require extra bedrooms for a family. A minimum of three in total.”

You listen closely, though you are still not convinced this isn’t some elaborate prank or the result of some mental illness which has made your client believe he is in fact H.G. Wells. For now, you’ll treat him like any other client. “I would like to help you. Do you have a budget?”

To your surprise, Wells nods. “My… girlfriend… has offered to fund this project. We have $186,600 available, will that be enough?”

“More than enough. You want a faithful recreation of a home from your time period?”

“Yes. Oh, I have no objection to modern technology, and naturally, electricity and plumbing are a must.”

“Naturally,” You agree. “Do you have a color preference?”

“I prefer to avoid pastels, but otherwise, I will leave the choice of appropriate colors in your hands.”

“Thank you for your trust. The house will be ready in a month. Ah, one other thing, how can I contact you?”

“Do not concern yourself, I will come to you in one month’s time.”

Build a house in a style that would have been popular at any point in H.G. Wells’ lifetime.
Decorate the interior as closely as you can to what would have been period-appropriate. Mr. Wells will forgive any necessary upgrades, such as modern kitchen appliances.

Landscaping should match the style of the house.
Include any additional rooms or spaces you fill will fit and which the budget allows.

For the exterior, I went for a British Queen Anne Revival style which was popular in the UK during the Victorian era.
For the interiors, I decorated the house in a formal and ornate way to reflect the tastes in the Victorian era.
Key features include 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a library, an art studio and a greenhouse. There is also a secret lab for Wells to work on his time machine!

Entry Details: It's a Queen Anne style home with three stories, a gazebo, and a well manicured garden. I decided that there would be a conservatory as in my head cannon the friend he met the present introduced him to botany. The third floor hallway is dedicated to his writing, reading, and time machine repairs. There are 3 Bedrooms and 3 Bathrooms, one of which has a fireplace. I tried keeping the color pallet consistent throughout as I found it overall a very fun one to use in this.

ENTRY DETAILS: This Edwardian inspired home is ready for HG Wells to come live in. Although it has electricity and modern plumbing, most of the home is true to the Edwardian period. Hints of steam punk and sci-fi art is scattered throughout the home in honor of HG Wells. This home has 4 normal beds, and 1 servant quarters. There are 3.5 baths for the family, and one for the servants as well. Lucious gardens surround the home.

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose the Edwardian Townhouse style because Wells, having grown up poor in Victorian England, might be happy that middle-class families can now have good housing. The Edwardian townhomes are more modest than the homes for the rich in Victorian times but accessible to more families. I chose the art deco style because I think someone who grew up in the Victorian aesthetic would consider art deco to be a logical progression of the popular aesthetic. It's simpler than the Victorian but still a little bit showy. My initial build was half a duplex. It had a basement. There was a kitchen, dining, front room, hall, and half bath on the main floor. Upstairs there were four bedrooms, two toilets, two baths and sinks in each room. I had safely saved my entry to my gallery. Thespina got an offer to marry for money, so they did. I used those funds to expand the home to include the rest of the lot. I then selected 'overwrite' instead of 'save new' thus cannibalizing my entry. I decided to still submit the expanded home within the budget but not all the rooms are furnished. The home now has a library and family room added to the main floor and three more bedrooms and a full bath upstairs. I included several high-tech objects to delight Wells. He was a scientist with a Victorian imagination about progress and technology so I think he would be intrigued by a robot vacuum, clothes dryer, talking toilet and a whole basement full of sciency things. The landscaping is an English rose garden with a garden path leading to a gazebo and a bird bath outside the dining room window. There is also a garden of harvestables because the bills are about $6750 which they can afford with two incomes and the proceeds from the garden.

ENTRY DETAILS: It has been 3 weeks since the home has been finished & moved into. We chose Windenburg . It was more than fitting , the neighborhood has access to a library, a cafe, & a nice park all with in walking distance. The architecture of the home is reminiscent of H.G. Wells time.. This partial Timber Framed home has 3 + bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. There is a period-appropriate Kitchen with modern convinces modestly added. There is an office ( laboratory ) for Wells . A Formal living room ( smoking room ) & dining room. The time Machine sits in the glass roofed attached green house, being worked on . The home is on the Proprietor's Square 30x20 lot. It is reminiscent to the Home in " The Time Machine" Book, & Movie from the 1960's. That home was in Richmond, a borough on the Thames River, on the outskirts of London. Similar to this neighborhood in Windenburg. It Looks lived in with all the objects & books Wells had brought with him from his own time, and objects he has collected from traveling.

ENTRY DETAILS: I did a lot of research on H.G.Wells.
I have learned so much about one of my Favorite Authors. Back in Victorian times his ideas on Womens Lib & romance were way before their time. He was also quite the ladies man. He broke many of the moral code back then.. ( Some things I did not need to know) H.G. Wells was more then an author. he was also a teacher, historian, & a journalist. A futurist, he wrote a number of utopian works and foresaw the advent of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons, satellite television and something resembling the World Wide Web. His science fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, invisibility, and biological engineering. He was dubbed the "Shakespeare of science fiction".
I was not going to submit an entry here. I had started out with a Sim that mostly resembled Sim Guru Ninja.. LOL
I think I did a pretty good job from pictures of a Young H.G.Wells and Jane his 2nd wife..

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose to build HG a Colonial styled home made to look like it belongs in the English countryside from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I found a house plan called "The Magnolia" that was straight out of the Sears catalog and used that as my inspiration for this build. There is a formal living and dining room, a den, sunroom, drawing room, and kitchen. There is a large primary bedroom and two spare bedrooms, all with attached decks. The third floor is the butlers living quarters. The landscaping is formal with many flowers and hedges, made to look like an English garden. There are fountains, a gazebo, fishing pond as well as a tennis court for good looks. The home has all the amenities that the modern day time has to offer but I have designed it to be fully functional off the grid if HG prefers.

Herbert George Wells is a genius who is proper and loves books. His life aspiration is to have a nerd brain and he is a quick learner as well. Thomas Butler is a young adult who likes to keep things clean, loves food, and is proper. His lifetime aspiration is to be a master chef. Catherine Robbins loves history. Her life aspiration is to become an archeology scholar and she is a quick learner. She is a romantic at heart, loves books, and is an overall good person.

You welcome your newest clients into your office with a smile. “I understand you want something other than a traditional home?”

Riley Rees and Nicola O’Brien nod at you. Riley defers to their older colleague.

“We want to create a safe place for LGBTQ youth to hang out and meet others like them,” Nicola explains.

You lean forward, intrigued. “This sounds interesting, tell me more.”

“It should look more like a home than your average youth center, with a big family room for watching T.V. or just hanging out having fun, an eat-in kitchen, and at least two full bathrooms,” Nicola continues.

“We had in mind a computer lab and study space in addition to a small library and somewhere for sims to work on skills such as music and painting.”

“It all sounds amazing and fun,” you say, wanting to help them bring this dream to life.

“One more thing - the center should have a quiet spot somewhere, either inside or in the garden, where teens can go to be alone and just think or write,” Riley adds.

You nod, realizing they’ve thought of everything. “What’s your budget?”

Nicola takes over again. “We were given the land through a grant. Our group has raised $200,000 for this project.”

“Wonderful. We can have it ready in one month,” you promise.

In this seemingly innocuous Commerical/residential combo, is a secret safehouse for those who need temporary or more permanent help. on the bottom floor, is a tutoring center, and café, both have ways for LBTQ to sneak into the safehouse, on the right side of the building which holds a cafeteria, hang out space, educational room, group therapy room, private therapy rooms, and extra secure safe house dorm rooms. the dorms are for those who ran away from an abusive situation. The right side of the building (accessible from the apartment entry door in the center of the first floor) has two apartments (one partially furnished with debug items, one not furnished due to costs) Inspiration from this build came from the Partihaus home nearby, and british terrace/london apartments where they are often above commercial lots..

ENTRY DETAILS: The land that was granted to Riley Rees and Nicola O’Brien, was the Oakenstead lot in Willow Creek. To our surprise There happened to be an old, abandoned Estate house in that plot of land. We were able to keep under the budget by restoring the Grand brick mansion . With a little elbow grease and some hard work it became the Oakenstead Community Center .
Made to look more like a home than your average youth center. Equipped with a Family style eat-in Country kitchen. The big family room is the hub of the center. With its big TV and gaming tables, one can watch TV or just hang out. The library off the Kitchen has an immense collection of books for all types of studies. In the garage is a Simple workout & game area . For the serious athletic or to just blow off steam.
Upstairs one will find themselves immersed, in the art corner at the top of the stairs. There are many quiet spaces where one can read and quietly study throughout the center & grounds. There is a Computer lab & Music room too. 2 guest bedrooms are also upstairs. For those in need of accommodations overnight. Yoga classes are also offered. As an alternate to normal fitness routines. Focusing on the mind/body connection.

After meeting with Riley and Nicola in my office I had some concerns about the project that they were asking me to do. I requested to meet with them again at the local Burger King so I could explain my dilemma.
I shared with them how I was not comfortable building a "club" designed specifically for a particular race, culture, class, religion, sexual orientation, or any other thing that causes division among us. We are all made unique and because of that we will have differences. We need to learn to love each other despite our differences. Our uniqueness makes us special, and our differences compliment each other. I would love to see the world of Brindleton Bay come together, diverse but united, in love for each other. Embracing the fact that we are ALL unique and we are ALL loved. I suggested that this safe haven be for anyone. We will absolutely gear the home towards teenagers, but everyone in need of a safe space will be welcome. The space will be used to show love to those who need it the most. Kindness and encouragement will be shown and any negative or hateful speech or actions will not be tolerated.
Riley and Nicola totally understood my concerns and absolutely loved the idea I proposed!
Riley suggested that we bring this proposal to the community to get their feedback. The results we astounding! Brindleton Bay rallied together in support of the project, donating many items for the home. Some crafted and knitted items, others gave money. One family even donated their old yellow couch. But all agreed that this will be a wonderful addition to their world.
ENTRY DETAILS:
Riley & Nicola's new home and Brindleton Bay's newest Community Center does not have a particular style, but I would describe it as "homey". I wanted anyone who enters to instantly feel comfortable and safe. The artwork throughout the home is motivational and encouraging. I used quotes from movies, books, and different authors to inspire others. There are many different rooms and spaces where sims can have a quiet space to themselves, and plenty of opportunities for skill building as well. There is a large common area with an open concept living space including the eat in kitchen. A large media room with plenty of seating, five bathrooms, a library, computer lab, study hall, sunroom, greenhouse, woodworking shop, yoga studio, a garage that has been converted into a gym/game room as well as an office where sims can meet with Riley or Nicola for counseling and advice.

ENTRY DETAILS: To combat the rising cost of living, Willow Creek recently abolished its single family zoning laws. This program has so far been quite successful, so when the architect for a house in Foundry Cove abandoned a half-finished project, the town stepped in. They offered to heavily subsidize building costs for anyone willing to build a multifamily dwelling on the property. Joseph Foster, a long-time resident and retired architect, said he'd been thinking about moving to an apartment with his granddaughter Kylie because it could do both of them some good to be around more people. He drew up plans for a small apartment building with four units and a shared patio space, with a large first floor apartment for himself. Terrence and Sanjay Bowers inquired about one of the upstairs units. They had been living in San Myshuno, but wanted their two young kids to grow up in a suburban neighborhood where there was plenty of space to play outside. Terrence and Sanjay told their friends Allison and Noah about the project. Recently married, the couple had been looking for a starter home and a first floor unit perfectly suited their needs. With three of the four units filled, the project seemed like it was almost set to start construction, but there was a snag with the last unit. Joseph's friend Rika Lopez was interested in moving to an apartment (she said her house just felt too empty now that her kids had moved out), but the remaining upstairs unit was simply too big for her to live in by herself. After two weeks with no other interest in the project, the town was set to sell it to a developer to build a single family mini-mansion on when Terrence had an idea. He proposed splitting the large upstairs unit into a smaller unit perfectly sized for Rika and a little studio apartment. Joseph altered the plans and everyone put out the word to their friends and family. Sanjay's cousin's daughter's friend Kana was interested. Only having graduated from Foxbury Institute a year prior, she never thought she'd be able to afford her own place so soon and a little studio was the perfect size for her and her cat Loki.

I haven't played Sims 4 in probably six months and this was a really fun challenge to come back to the game with! Unlike most of my builds, this build is not intended to actually be played in. It has not been playtested and there are several areas of the build that won't function properly (including the fact that it's an apartment building for 10 sims and a cat).

Description
This half-done home was turned into a lovely American Southern Plantation style home. With a Master suite on the bottom floor, Formal dining beautiful kitchen and Living room. Large Laundry room with side entrance. Large yard with pool. The second floor comes with 4 bedrooms, 1 bath, and a bonus space. The upper balcony also provides extra hang out space in the summer.

ENTRY DETAILS: From a partial build to a full home, this showdown took on a classical twist! I expanded the upper balcony. The first floor is in the Neo-classical style (as much as possible) with a small library, living room, dining room, and kitchen. A small basement houses the laundry room and storage. The second floor has a master bedroom and another bathroom set up as a nursery. The third floor has three bedrooms, one of which is set up as a room for the butler or a guest room. The outside is a grass-free space with trees, bushes, and flowers filling out the front and backyards. The backyard also has a barbecue area and a doll house for the kills to play with. The lot traits are child's play, sunny aspect, and teen neighborhood. The challenge is Spooky!

Michaela Rader is Eliza Pancakes best friend and neighbor. They even borrow each other's clothes. However, one night, Micaela's house was damaged when the first tornado in 87 ("4 score and 7 years ago" a score is 20 years) years struck her house and took the back half of it away! Michaela was able to escape in her borrowed clothes. She just slipped on Eliza's purple flip flops and ran to her storm cellar that her great-great uncle built hours before the last tornado struck so long ago!
Note: I wanted this build to have an old, hand-crafted/knitted feel, along with some more modern comforts --- as if she slightly modernized her great-great uncle’s mid 1930s home, which his great great uncle built for his wife and two children in the mid 1800s (another 87 years before that. The children’s room is a guest room now because Michaela is single with no children. The remaining funds will be donated to the town’s emergency fund for anyone whose lot was affected by the unexpected tornado in parts of Willow Creek. The Pancakes’ house was somehow not affected.
She replaced the door recently on the storm cellar so that it was stronger than the original wooden door. She found the moss-covered roof intact down the street put it back on and build the rest of the house again.

In Late June my husband & I went house hunting in real life. We went to an open house at an older beautiful brick colonial built in 1929 in our town. In looking at the shell for July's challenge I tried to re-create that home. The home consists of 4 bedrooms and 3 baths .An updated Kitchen & Pantry. A furnished basement and a sunroom office. I moved the front door a little to the left, creating a covered entrance area. I added a third level to the right, part of it in the tower and part of it under the roof. In the building and in the garden, I tried to give many opportunities for occupation and relaxation to the sims, like: treadmill, grill, jacuzzi, greenhouse, chess, study, reading corner, pool, outdoor children's play area.

#BnS164 - The Hawthorne Project Phase XV

After too long, another email from the Hawthorne Project has arrived in your inbox. You open it up to find out what your fifteenth project for the organization will entail, and your heartstrings are immediately tugged by the plight of the Daniels family. You are inspired to do all you can to help Roger, Regina and their 4 children. Teenage Rocky’s efforts to help his family by getting a job are laudable ,but he should be free to be a boy, hanging out with friends, focusing on school and looking forward to prom, not his next paycheck. The idea of a baby and two toddlers without a home as summer nears its end is distressing, and you are eager to get to work.

Roger Daniels, his wife Regina, his son from a previous marriage named Rocky, his twin toddlers Johnny and Parker, and the new baby Alyssa have had a desperate run of bad luck since just before the pandemic started. First, Roger, who worked in construction, suffered a worksite accident that left him permanently lame with a bad back. He has filed to try and get disability, but the paperwork has not yet gone through. Not long after the pandemic, Regina lost her bar keeping job at the local pub due to a lockdown of non-essential work. The lockdown went on so long, the owners lost so much money that they had to permanently close the bar. Regina has been applying for any job opening she can find, but so far she has not been hired. And her unemployment ran out long ago.

The family are currently living in a tiny cabin behind their church thanks to an understanding congregation. It is not a permanent solution for the growing family. Luckily, 17 year old Rocky has a part-time job at the local hamburger joint. He has been working all the hours he can get to help the entire family get necessities and food. The family also have turned to food pantries, but they have to go to multiple pantries to get enough for the whole family to eat every day. To make up for the electricity and water the family uses, Regina does some cleaning in the church during the week and runs the daycare during church services.

Roger has become desperate and applied for public housing, but he was told the waiting list is several years long. He has become depressed since he can no longer support his family. He spends his time watching the small children and playing horseshoes. The young ones are mainly cranky in this uncertain environment.

While Regina was cleaning the church office and waiting to do a job search on the computer, a new volunteer told her about the Hawthorn Project. As soon as the computer was free, she emailed her application in, crossing her fingers for luck. She is well aware that if something does not change soon, the family could be pulled apart. And then she worked on applying for more jobs in the hopes that something good will happen on that front too!

ENTRY DETAILS: This is my first entry to any building contest. It has been quite a learning process. Willow Creek had made low interest loans available to Foundry Cove residences to improve their home and property. The 2 corner lots were empty. The mayor and city council were excited to learn one of the lots were purchased by the Hawthorne Project. This 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house is a single floor home. It features a front and back porch with a backyard patio. The front of the home from left to right as you face it holds the master bedroom/bathroom, the kitchen/living room, and activity room. The left leg holds the nursery, the twins’ room, and bathroom 02. I thought it important to keep their rooms close to the parents as they need close attention and supervision. Rocky’s room is in the right leg along with the guest bathroom (bathroom 03). As a teen, he would probably welcome the privacy this gives him. The activity rooms hold a couple of exercise equipment and an activity tree for the toddlers. That way when Rocky is minding the toddlers, he can watch them and exercise at the same time.

ENTRY DETAILS:
The Daniels family is going to live in the recently deserted lot of CopperDale High. So far, the builder has only completed Rocky's room klepto, music lover, body builder aspiration with a love of video gaming!

ENTRY DETAILS: Nestled at the end of its own private driveway. Hillside Haven is a short walk from the Plumbite Pier, aka the amusement park! This home was made with all of the Daniels family's needs in mind. To keep costs down for the family's Bills, solar panels were installed on the roof. There are Plenty of skill building objects for the whole Family. Starting with Rocky - an electric Guitar. The Twins- nesting blocks & Wabbit Tablets. An Easel for anyone who would like to paint. Downstairs there is exercise Equipment. A punching bag in our teen boy's room and a weightlifting machine by the Fizzing station. Someone's new Hobby. No More Horseshoes for Rodger. The Lot cost $1,800.00 .Build- Gallery cost Coming in at $153,472.00, almost 4,000.00 under budget.
