A Free African World???

There were rumors started not only of the new Ep that is to come out soon, but also that EA was planning to give us all a free world based on Africa, but for some reason got canned... I later heard it didn't go through in fear this world would not be welcomed or liked by us Sims players.

I would like to know why.

While I am not personally of African descent, I would absolutely go crazy over the idea of getting such a free world to play as this!!!

In previous surveys EA put out for the Sims 4,  I mentioned we don't have nearly enough content to truly properly furnish a whole house to honor this nationality. Since then, we may have more clothing and hair styles now and sure we have a plant, a rug, a pillow, a framed picture, a lamp... but what about the rest of the home?

We have stuff for a more "R&B"/Rap culture... but that is not my interest. I like more authentic African art and stylings of furniture. To have some decent food choices that also resembles this heritage.

This game is supposed to support all backgrounds, nationalities, and lifestyles. But over the years, we have had plenty of Asian content, which is very cool. But when it comes to other cultures... not so much.

I Would love my sim to have a world and great choices of furnishings (and not just one chair and a couch) How about some a couple of couches with pillows and throws and some without. The same with the living room chairs and maybe a nice **bleep** to match. A really great dining room set. Lighting consisting of ceiling, floor, and wall light sets and other accent lighting. A single, double, and kids bed...a whole bedroom set that consist of dressers, hanging cloths, night stands. When it comes to decor, how about more plant choices, rugs, pictures, Wall sculptures, mirrors, and most definitely different sized curtains to accommodate this theme. Some awesome outdoor trees, flowers, shrubbery.

EA went all out in giving us so much awesome free content to accommodate babies coming into the picture. The same happened with a drop that consisted of new buildmode and buymode items and added colors to base game content. So, why not do this for all of us who are interested in learning about or living this cultural experience? I actually read some of the content that pertains to other cultures in our Sim's game like foods... what they are made of and if they are used during a special occasion, as well as, the names of outdoor plants and trees from other parts of the globe and what they provide for the people. I find this game not only entertaining but also educational too.

EA please reconsider! If anyone agrees, please like this post so our voices are heard and hopefully answered. Thank you for your time.

While this is good to some respects and I totally get there are many players who would absolutely love having Medieval/Royalty items and themes to play in our games. I may be one of the oddballs that doesn't get into that kind of thing LOL. So to have to purchase a whole expansion just to get that world when we could have actually had it for free... really is disheartening.

It is the same thing with like Life and Death. In my personal life, it has been met with a lot of recent tragedies. So to play something as "dark" as this expansion is not for me. Yet, there are some really beautiful items both CAS and Buy/Buildmode from that pack I would just love to have in my game. It is times like these I wish they brought the concept back of the Sims 3 Store with a bit of a twist. Instead of all different kinds of new content to purchase either individually or as a set (though those would be welcomed too) it would be nice to have the ability to get say... just the worlds themselves or items or sets that are offered in these packs, so those who either cannot afford the whole pack or the pack itself is not desired in their games can still benefit from them.

There are so many other countries I'd love a Sim version of, I can't think of a single African country they've given us and it's a BIG place with a lot of countries. I love that we have a few different Asian inspired worlds and we've got I think two (only one livable) South American worlds but more variety would be very welcome.

  • I think worlds are expensive and time consuming to make, especially if they are based on a new theme. They need to create specific assets for them, like African trees and plants, fake buildings to decorate the neighbourhood, maybe some special effects like wild animals or sounds, BB catalogue items, etc. If there was going to be an African world, I don't think it would have been released free, most likely it would have been part of the EP and if they scrapped such a world I think it's most likely they scrapped a whole African world and gave us a world with three neighbourhoods of different inspiration, one of them being Africa. Personally, I am not a fan of tiny neighbourhoods as there is too few lots in them and thus not enough space to make them feel complete and whole worlds.

No, that was not the case I am speaking of LOL. If you were to watch Iron Seagull in his Youtube Clip: "Scrapped African World Update... and Royalty is the Final Sims 4 Expansion Pack?!"

It was initially leaked by Adaphii. The post reads:

TS4's major content is done, expect only updates and kits after EP21

EP21 is focused on Royalty with three kingdom types, one of which is based on Africa.

We were gonna get a whole African World for free but it was canned for some reason.

It was about approximately a week after this posting we got official word of this new EP being about royalty and now learning that one portion of the world is "African based."

Since these were correctly shared by Adaphii, I can't see why this person would lie about these findings of this free world that has been scrubbed. It was since then another anonymous tip mentioned it was scrubbed because EA felt it would not be as "welcomed" by the majority of players.

Think about it... like I mentioned before... when Growing together was to be released we got a major SDX drop to support babies coming in. So, why not think EA could surprise us with this amazing drop of a new free world to coincide with the new EP?

I just want to know why this idea was scrubbed. As like you said, jpkarlsen, there have been players in the past requesting such a world. So... to learn it was scrubbed is upsetting to some of us.

You may have read that someone asked for a free map based on Africa as I did but that is not the same as EA having promised one. I would like it if they made one though.

  • I just read the description for the new royalty pack and it looks like one of the neighborhoods in the new packs world,  is African world based.

  • I later heard it didn't go through in fear this world would not be welcomed or liked by us Sims players.

Yeah that's crazy right? It looks like we aren't begging and suggesting many african countries to inspire worlds in the game for years.

Me and many other simmers i've seen in the forums would also LOVE an african world, even more if it's free, so i don't know who'd be against it, i can only think of actual africans in case the world is poorly made or... people that "don't like" african things.

But well whoever is in charge of the decisions apparently don't know anything about the players. I wish that in that case they'd only give us a free coastal part of Del Sol Valley, given that they don't have problems with portraying clearly USA-inspired worlds.
