Burglar Alarm Shock Should Work Against Kleptomaniac Sims

Now that we have the Burglar Alarm and it can be upgraded to include the burglar shock, it would be extremely helpful if the Alarm could also be made to work for when Kleptomaniac Sims steal something from a home or business (particularly business), with the alarm going off if something is nabbed, and the shock going off if upgraded. In public lots such as museums, etc., there is currently absolutely no protection, short of mods, to prevent theft by Kleptomaniacs. This is a much worse problem than the Burglar character, who has many possible interactions to drive gameplay and potentials prevent theft / get items back. There are comment threads going back years about players who've lost portraits of their family founders, etc. to Kleptomaniac Sims, and now that we have Small Businesses that are incorporated into homes, it's even more of a problem. Adjusting the functionality of the Burglar Alarm would add realism, deter a much more prevalent kind of theft in the game, and also make it more challenging when playing a Kleptomaniac Sim (maybe give them a chance to break the alarm, etc. by interacting with it).

  • Kleptos could be roommates, friends or relatives.

We should be able to report sims we know to the police department as well..have them booked an arrested. Relationships could be effected by this.

If the Kleptomaniac Sims are in your household, I don't believe you can have them steal from themselves since objects are owned by the household, so I don't believe there would be any issue of errors caused by adding the functionality I've suggested. However, for extended families that live in separate households, this might be a problem. Perhaps though, the Sims in the household / business wouldn't want their extended relatives to steal any more than strangers?

What Miataplay is suggesting would be interesting too and would really add a lot more dimensionality than what I contemplated, but might be more complex from an adjustment / programming standpoint. I was suggesting adding to the Burglar Alarm's functionality simply because it might be easier to set the conditions of alarm / shock to apply to the Kleptomaniac trait, as well as the Burglar trait, from a programming standpoint. Either way would be great, though.
