Kids can't play instruments really???

So at the camp I have a creative slot and I wanted arts and crafts and music so kids can't do pottery, and the kids can't play with the guitar or any other instruments like...why? This is one of the many reasons why I would like a Preteen Lifestage as well so they can do what kids can't do also I feel like they made the Sims kids act younger and older then the previous games in some areas which is weird and confusing to me.
