Suggestion: Unique Moodlets for "Questionable" Ingredients!
I'm a huge fan of the gardening and fishing skills in the game. I love the thrill of discovering rare seeds and reeling in strange fish. However, I've noticed that once you collect the more... "unique" produce, their use feels a bit underwhelming. I think we could make them a lot more fun and impactful!
The Core Idea: Sims should get special, unique moodlets after eating food made with ingredients like Trash Fruit, Cow Berries, Alien Fruit, or Foul Fish. These ingredients are clearly not normal and consuming them should have more noticeable (and amusing) consequences beyond just filling the Hunger bar.
What works well right now?
The game does a great job of making the acquisition of these items feel special. Finding a Trash Fruit plant growing out of a dumpster or managing to find a Foul Fish adds a fun layer of discovery. The fact that you can use them in cooking at all is a nice touch—it turns what would be junk into a (somewhat) functional resource. It encourages players to experiment and use what they find in the world.
What isn’t working or feels frustrating?
The main issue is that these exotics, and often gross-sounding, ingredients are functionally identical to a common apple or potato once they hit the plate. A "Fruit Salad" made with fresh, high-quality strawberries feels exactly the same as one made with Trash Fruit and a Cow Berry. This feels like a missed opportunity for storytelling and comedy. It's frustrating to go through the effort of finding these weird items only for them to have no unique identity or impact.
What new ideas or improvements would you suggest?
I propose adding a set of special, ingredient-specific moodlets that trigger after a Sim eats a dish containing a significant amount of one of these items.
Examples of new moodlets:
- Trash Fruit Palate: "That was... surprisingly edible? Maybe?" (Uncomfortable +1 or +2 for 4 hours)
- Cow Berry Concoction: "Feels a bit... bovine." (Playful +2, with a chance to do the "Silly Walk" interaction autonomously)
- Alien Fruit Indulgence: "My brain is buzzing with cosmic knowledge... and static." (Focused +2, or Dazed +2, for 3 hours)
- Foul Fish Feast: "I can still taste it... and smell it." (Very Uncomfortable +3, with a high chance of nausea, for 6 hours)
These effects could also tie into other systems:
- Social Interactions: A Sim who has eaten Alien Fruit could get a unique "Discuss Cosmic Revelations" interaction.
- Occult Sims: Perhaps PlantSims could get a positive moodlet from Trash Fruit, treating it as a delicacy.
Why would this improve your gameplay experience?
This change would add a massive layer of fun, risk, and storytelling to cooking and foraging.
Instead of just being filler ingredients, these items would become tools for creating specific scenarios. Do you dare to serve your enemy Foul Fish tacos? Do you risk the side effects of Alien Fruit to more focused to win a chess match? It would make the consequences of using these ingredients feel tangible and meaningful. For players who love challenges and quirky stories, this would be an absolute goldmine, turning every strange harvest into a potential adventure.
What do y'all think? Would you be brave enough to feed your Sim a Trash Fruit, fruit salad?
