[Traits] Add, Update/Refresh or Overhaul?

I have my starting notes, but feel free to add your own. Also, note a concept of making some pack traits, cross-pack traits so you can get from other packs as well.

Generally, I think all older traits could use a refresh/update—as many of the newer traits like Lovestruck and newer have some really great traits.

I also think that the new default trait should be 6 slots. I know people usually ask for 5, and that there is a mod for 5, and that GRO allows up to 5. But in CAS up to 6, because weird enough I think it looks cleaner/balanced in the Simology panel, and dynasty panel as they both as set up for 2-3 columns.

As mentioned in the comments Vegetarian, Lactose Intolerant, etc. should be in a separate dietary panel. As well as likes/dislikes tab for cuisine types.

Also, add the Sim Characteristic Mysterious, as with occult Sims and traits like Macabre/Mystical are Mysterious Ideals, also if Medium skill and Tarot could be likes/dislikes, and Thanatology skill (they could be Mysterious). For both likes/dislikes and turn ons/offs.

Base Game Traits:

  • Active: This should be the only trait that autonomously works out/jogs/etc.
  • Active Imagination: Should work on adults.
  • Ambitious: Should work with active careers, and should get advantages for Prestige Point for Dynasties if R&L is installed.
  • Art Lover: I think these should be merged with Creative (Artistic).
  • Bookworm
  • Bro: I feel this should be an aspiration or reward trait.
  • Cheerful
  • Childish: Should have some of Goofball aspects merged into this trait.
  • Clumsy
  • Creative: I think these should be merged with Art Lover (Artistic).
  • Erratic: I think these should be split into Neurotic (mild neurosis) and Insane (highly eccentric and stereotyped "insane" behaviour) like in Sims 3.
  • Evil
  • Family-Oriented: Should get advantages for Prestige Point for Dynasties if R&L is installed. If children are in household, autonomy should be like a hired Nanny.
  • Foodie: Should be in a separate dietary panel.
  • Geek
  • Genius
  • Gloomy
  • Glutton: I feel this could be merged with Slob.
  • Good: I feen this could be merged with Loyal.
  • Goofball: This should be split into Funny/Good Sense of Humor and Childish.
  • Grouch
  • Hates Children
  • Hot-Headed: Should be stronger Angry moodlets and immune to cardiac explosion unless elder.
  • Jealous: Should be stronger Tense moodlets.
  • Kleptomaniac
  • Lazy: I feel this could be merged with Slob.
  • Loner
  • Loves Outdoors: Should get advantages to gaining and keeping "Outdoorsy" Lifestyle if Snowy Escape is installed.
  • Loyal: I feel this could be merged with Good
  • Materialistic: I feel this could be merged with Snob
  • Mean: I think unless a Sim is equipped with Mean (and possibly Evil), will not autonomously use mean interactions.
  • Music Lover
  • Neat: Autonomy should be just like a hired Maid/Butler.
  • Noncommittal: Should get advantages to gaining and keeping "Single and Lovin' It" Lifestyle if Snowy Escape is installed.
  • Outgoing
  • Perfectionist: Should get advantages for Prestige Point for Dynasties if R&L is installed. This trait should also always clean up after themselves (like after eat/clean up dish(es)).
  • Practice Makes Perfect
  • Romantic: Should increase Romance Skill if Lovestruck is installed, stronger Flirty moodlets, and should get advantages to gaining and keeping "Hungry for Love" Lifestyle if Snowy Escape is installed.
  • Self-Assured: Personally I think the icon should be updated/improved, and trait could be updated/improved. Maybe act more like a Brave trait.
  • Slob: I feel this could be merged with Lazy.
  • Snob: I feel this could be merged with Materialistic.
  • Vegetarian: Should be in a separate dietary panel.

Pack Traits:

  • Adventurous: I feel this could be a cross-pack trait not just Snowy Escape, so update the icon to represent a more generic "Adventurous", and maybe add it to Royal & Legacy (as the Brave Ideals and Swordsmanship Skill, and is apt to the trait) and Adventure Awaits (for Archery Skill).
  • Animal Enthusiast
  • Cat Lover
  • Chased by Death: Should be compatible with Mystical.
  • Child of the Islands
  • Child of the Ocean
  • Child of the Village
  • Competitive
  • Cringe: Should be more likely to trigger Scandals if R&L is installed, and if they do the scandal severity and duration should be decreased.
  • Dance Machine: This maybe should be cross-pack and icon/name updated to Dancer. To work with Waltzing in R&L too.
  • Disruptive: Should be compatible with Macabre, increased Mischief Skill should be fixed, and should autonomously use their trait specific socials (or at least more so over other mischievous socials). Maybe moodlets for this trait should exclude: Embarrassed (similar to Shameless reward trait), as this seem like a inherit Shameless trait.
  • Dog Lover
  • Freegan
  • Generous
  • Green Fiend
  • High Maintenance
  • Horse Lover
  • Idealist: Should work with being in positive Dynasties as well (as long as they aren't the Outcast) if R&L is installed.
  • Insider: Should work with being in Dynasties as well (as long as they aren't the Outcast) if R&L is installed.
  • Lactose Intolerant: Should be in a separate dietary panel.
  • Lovebug: Should get advantages to gaining and keeping "Hungry for Love" Lifestyle if Snowy Escape is installed. Should be more  likely to trigger romantic based Scandals if R&L is installed, and if they do the scandal severity and duration should be decreased.
  • Macabre: Should be compatible with Disruptive and Mystical. Maybe moodlets for this trait should exclude: Embarrassed (similar to Shameless reward trait), as I associate this trait as a sort of Addams Family type trait, and their eccentricities really never show them embarrassed on what typical people/Sims find embarrassing. A Scandal about Voodoo (or really anything), would not phase them. And maybe more and stronger "Fine" moodlets (to also help show off their unique moodlet thumbnail) as they are not easily moved by emotions of typical events/socials/etc. Or that Happy moodlets are switched/replaced to Fine and Fine moodlets act as a booster instead.
  • Maker
  • Mystical: Should be compatible with Macabre. Also, if an occult, should prioritize occult autonomous actions/interactions.
  • Nosy: Should be better at discovering Scandals if R&L is installed.
  • Overachiever: Should get advantages for Prestige Point for Dynasties if R&L is installed.
  • Paranoid: Should be less likely to trigger Scandals if R&L is installed, and if they do the scandal severity and duration should be increased.
  • Party Animal
  • Plant Lover
  • Proper: This maybe should be cross-pack with R&L, should gain advantages to getting "Gold" on Holding Court/Holding Press Conferences, and want to autonomously waltz, and socialize with Nobles if Royalty & Legacy is installed.
  • Rancher: Autonomy should be just like a hired Ranch-Hand.
  • Recycle Disciple
  • Romantically Reserved: Should be less likely to trigger romantic based Scandals if R&L is installed, and if they do the scandal severity and duration should be increased.
  • Self-Absorbed: Should be more likely to trigger Scandals if R&L is installed, and if they do the scandal severity and duration should be increased
  • Shady: Should work with being in devious/negative Dynasties as well (or as long as they are the Outcast of positive ideal dynasties) if R&L is installed.
  • Skeptical
  • Socially Awkward
  • Squeamish: I feel this could be a cross-pack trait not just Outdoor Retreat, but also for Adventure Awaits.
  • Unflirty: Should get advantages to gaining and keeping "Single and Lovin' It" Lifestyle if Snowy Escape is installed.
  • Wise: Should get advantages for Prestige Point for Dynasties if R&L is installed.

Reward and other traits:

Wanted Traits:

  • Green Thumb: Yes, we got Plant Lover but they are plant sensitive, negative moodlets from dead plants, harvest plants, eating plants. Where Green Thumb is about the growing and harvesting of plants for cooking/flower arranging/selling being proud of your garden, and not quite thinking they are your green babies. This for base game too.
  • Charismatic: What I like about this trait at least in Sims 3 days, is you could be Charming-Charismatic (depending on other traits) I assume that is the Outgoing trait of today, or Manipulative-Charismatic (depending on other traits). It would be really nice even if you have a more negative or mean spirited leaning Sim, to be able to socialize back into a Sim's good graces after being mistreated or been rude to, creating hot-cold socializations and relationships. This for base game too.
  • Brooding: This was my favourite Sims 3 trait. I loved they would prioritize looking out a window over any socializing. Brooding trait is a social trait, and acted as an overpowered Loner trait. A Sim could just Consider the Hollowness of Life or Contemplate the Meaning of Meaning and fill their social and fun bars. You pretty much wouldn't need any social or fun and since it was autonomous it almost always be maintained. This helped with adventuring and skill raising.
  • Irresistible: If the devs ever fix strangers joining conversations or just stop all NPCs from interrupting a Sim's queue. This is what/how the Irresistible trait use to accomplish. If you left your Sim unattended, Sims (unless Loners/Social Awkward or whatever), would approach your Sim and socialize, because they are drawn to your trait. Otherwise it is pretty much a pointless trait with NPC/Sims' non-stop socializing. And when they "Blow a Kiss" the other Sim would be fixated on the Irresistible Sim for a timeframe.
  • Flirty: Yes, we have various romantic based traits, but I liked that Flirty traditionally was like a "tease" social, no physical contact, but would prefer flirting over other socials. In Sims 3 it actually made Romantic based Sims the more "Female" based romantic social, like if your did the "Dip Kiss" even though you initiated you'd be dipped. And "Flirty" was more the "Male" based romantic trait making all the moves as the dominant (I think like putting the arm around the Sim type idea). This for base game too.
  • (Reward or Hidden Trait) Immortal: Some occults can't be immortal and stop aging. Such as Spellcasters. I'd like a potion (that makes the trait, and not potions to create moodlets/reduce days on aging) or reward trait to accomplish this.
  • Coward: I think a trait more likely to be Embarrassed, Tense, Uncomfortable and especially Scared is still needed. Extorting would always work with a Coward, all Scared moodlets would be intensified, and autonomy similar to Sims running away from Werewolves would really add to this characteristic.
  • Angler: After playing a Sim who was primarily a fisherman (for food with NLS and to make money). I noticed that Loves the Outdoors trait (and Fishing Aspiration Reward Trait) is/was fine, but with the Luck system it would have been nice to have more of an advantage. I also feel the Fishing Socials would do better as Angler trait socials instead, especially "Discuss Local Fishing Spots". As it yields fish entries in the notebook, and is anonymous which can be annoying for non-fishing Sims (I currently use a mod to prevent this social from being autonomous).
  • (Aspiration or Triggered Trait) Bowfishing Specialist: I love Bowfishing (from Archery), but even you get debuffs so this cannot be continual like other fishing. I think if be great if Max Archery and Max Fishing, or Max Archery/Fishing/Fitness that Bowfishing no longer gives debuffs, can be done continuously like regular fishing actions, and becomes default and autonomous fishing style. Also, one can yield better results, fish for longer, and result in more fish from Spearfishing if IL is installed.

  • Honestly, most traits add nothing to the personality of the Sim. I suggest this a while ago but traits need three things to improve gameplay:

    1. Desired action: an action that a Sim wants to do with the trait and when they don't do it, they get upset. The longer you don't do the action, the more upset they get.
    2. Undesired actions: Things a Sim with that trait would never do. The more you have your Sim do these things, the more upset they get.
    3. Relationship boots: Sims with certain traits make friends with Sims with similar traits quicker and enemies with conflicting traits slower.

Honestly, I feel a lot of traits in the game are pack filler or should be likes/dislikes. Another system we have is lifestyles. This gets to be too much noise for a Sim's personality that does nothing to change their behavior.

  • I 100 % agree on these changes, ESPECIALLY the dietary features. Ive always felt like it was weird that a sim would have to use one of their trait slots just to have tummy problems.

  • I think the main thing is that each trait should do more. Make them do certain things autonomously that they won't otherwise do, but equally important not autonomously doing things they hate.

And added to that should be unique interactions for them, and maybe replacement actions that are not just in the description but actually shows a visual difference.

Let's take the lazy trait for example. I don't think it should be merged with slob, someone lazy could still be neat. But the lazy trait could plausibly affect a whole lot of things.

They should NEVER clean, work out, cook or do other stuff that requires effort. They'd still shower of course, but they'd never clean up after themselves unless told to. They should have the lazy spin when changing clothes that lazy sims had in sims 2. Should also take longer to get out of bed with new animations if you wake them up before their energy is full and they could get angry from it, and they'd sleep longer than other sims when their energy bar is full. Should also be able to lay on the couch and watch television, when there is no prepared food around, they should always grab a quick meal and never cook. The almost non-trait of sims 3, heavy sleeper, could be incorporated into lazy sims too, so they'll sleep through nearly everything. Noisy neighbours, earthquakes, hauntings, etc. That way you get a nice benefit out of being lazy too.

I also think that with inventions, some traits should allow for unique inventions or creations that you'd basically need to have that trait for to come up with it. Like a lazy sim could maybe be able to create the ultimate recliner chair that's very comfortable to sleep in and maybe has a compartment for snacks or such, so they can get something to eat while using it without having to get up.

The geek trait should do A LOT when you visit Batuu. There should be a new 'Geek out!' interaction that makes a geek sim very happy, like for example with the millenium Falcon. They'd stand there gushing over it all excited, and could do that interaction with all kinds of geeky things. Maybe also with specific characters. But they could also maybe get some unique interactions and extra rewards. They should advance through the faction ranks faster, and could have access to an additional kyber crystal and lightsaber hilt.

The slob skill should be stronger, as is, these sims still want to shower when very dirty. That should not be a thing, THIS should be the sims that aren't bothered by not showering. They'd still do it on their own if getting visibly filthy, but should not get a negative moodlet if they don't. Like if they are doing  a work out, they can just keep going no matter how dirty they get. Slob sims could make more of a mess, making their surroundings dirtier faster, not bothered by messes. The lazy sim could still be bothered by a mess, but not enough to clean it up. Making a sim both lazy and a slob should really make them a rough housemate to deal with.

Probably still not as bad as a mean sim should be though. They should be a terror to anyone they are not friends with. When angry they should be picking fights. And angry or not, they should be automatically doing mean interactions with anyone they have negative relationship with. Socially, the mean sim should be the worst to deal with.

Evil sims should be easier to live with, unless you're a good sim or have other related traits like idealist or generous. Generally speaking, the evil sim should be way more ambitious than a mean sim. Like the mean sim wants to punch their enemy in the face. The evil sim wants to destroy their entire life, and could be able to do all kinds of evil schemes. They should be incapable of mourning anything or anyone, no heartbreak over a divorce. Evil sims should be able to do all kinds of things to their enemies that no other sim can, because only an evil sim would think of it. Like maybe have a whole lot of pizza's delivered to their enemy at their expense, be able to spread lies to try and get them fired, fabricate scandals to famous or royal sims, and in every career they should be able to use it for evil.

  • Also, add the Sim Characteristic Mysterious, as with occult Sims and traits like Macabre/Mystical are Mysterious Ideals, also if Medium skill and Tarot could be likes/dislikes, and Thanatology skill (they could be Mysterious). For both likes/dislikes and turn ons/offs.

  • I thought I'd show a quick Base Game Trait vs. a Newer EP Trait. Lovestuck and newer EPs do seem to have more fleshed out traits (even compared just to older EPs traits).

Also note that Compatibility doesn't match Attraction for categorizing for the same traits, and that have the have the same Characteristics (besides Compatibility missing Clean and Messy).
