UNDERWATER EXPANSION! PLEASE!

If they pulled this off, I think this could be the most epic expansion the EA team has ever done.

I personally didn't buy the Sulani expansion because I found out there was no underwater gameplay. If they released an underwater expansion I would absolutely buy Sulani AND the new expansion because WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE A MERMAID UNDERWATER???

I feel like Enchanted By Nature with fairies was so fun and therapeutic, and really complemented the other nature themed packs (Cottage Living, Horse Ranch, gardening kits etc). Given that so many players come to Sims in order to live out experiences very distinct from their actual lives, I think this could be a really cool point of difference. And speaking as someone who grew up near the ocean and now lives in a big city - I feel like the therapeutic nature of this pack would make it endlessly playable. Ideas below...

  • Integrate mermaids, obviously.
  • A fun & minimal looking 'regulator' breathing apparatus so that sims can spend a lot of time underwater without having to be in full scuba gear.
  • FORAGING UNDERWATER! Essentially an underwater gardening feature, with the potential to 'fish' by exploring coral etc. This would be my absolute dream.
  •  Could we have residential (and even commercial) lots that are styled as underwater caverns?
I know this sounds like a developer's worst nightmare but hear me out. What if you travel to it like normal on the map, but when you arrive at the lot, your sim is in shallow water. They wade out of water and are on land: but the land is a submerged cavern (like an air pocket!!!) inside the underwater world. Unique lot features like strange coral growing, amphibious critters (crabs?) instead of foxes... I think that what the developers did with the tree-house in Enchanted By Nature was SO COOL and there are endless opportunities for a similar creative spin in an underwater pack.
Maybe there's a natural skylight that lets in sunlight, and other sources of light like glow-worms? Anyway - just my two cents. I think in this scenario you'd use the cavern's architecture as your house rather than building a house within the area. Build mode objects could be rock themed - like the woodland objects from Enchanted By Nature.
  • A pub in a partially submerged shipwreck??? I'm excited just thinking about it.
  • New careers and integration with other packs! Maybe there are precious metals and gemstones only found underwater - ocean themed jewellery making anyone??? Or a career as a marine conservationist where you clean up / restore reef areas.
In real life (lol) I have several friends who make jewellery inspired by the ocean, and I know that conservation is a really strong pull for many young people especially.

Thank you for reading my Ted Talk. PLEASE tell me what you think or if you have more ideas. This pack would be my absolute dream!!!

  • More underwater/above water gameplay features/items include:

    1. Swimming in ponds including fishing and backyard ponds used with water tool
    2. Swim up bars and cafes in pools and grottos (like you said)
    3. Special foods that can be created using ingredients only found underwater (especially easy for mermaids)
    4. toys for kids they throw in the water and dive down to find
    5. New events like algae blooms that need to be cleaned, and sometimes toxic algae bloom events that can result in death if swam in
    6. Fishing and shelling jobs in addition to your marine conservationist idea
    7. more interactions like watching bioluminescent phytoplankton, whale watching, and shell collecting
    8. Buildings that are completely submerged in water and only accessible to mermaids and those with scuba gear in addition to your grotto idea
  • juleskrobertson You can actually snorkel in first person camera in Sulani with Island Living. You can see all of the underwater features, all the beautiful details of the reefs and the aquatic life. You can do it while swimming as a Sim or as a mermaid and while canoeing (which is lovely on the ocean at night) too but with the snorkelling your Sim is travelling at the right speed and water level to appreciate it and see more. You can also scuba dive with breathing apparatus to collect treasure, shells and even underwater photos. There's a whole set of pirate treasures and seashells to collect. There is also already a conservationist career in the pack where your Sim can be an Environmental Manager or Marine Biologist. Sims can also join the diving career. Any Sims can help clean up the neighbourhood beaches and ocean to revive it and bring pink dolphins to swim around again once it's restored. Sims can even take water samples where there is a neon blue algae effect, as part of the career tasks and chastise any Sims caught poaching endangered fish species. You can also play a shipwreck/castaway theme by living off the more remote islands and collecting and fishing to survive. Plus there are water lots you can swim up to. There's also glass panels to make skylights on a flat roof or to make a glass floor which is really cool on a water lot, to have the ocean right underneath your Sim's feet. So while you weren't sure if the pack would appeal to you, it's one of my favourites for these features. You can also travel to the baby turtle hatching which is adorable. 🧜

An underwater cavern rabbit hole would be cool. There is an underground cavern to explore in Sulani but you can't travel with them unlike the base game forgotten grotto. You just get updates about what your Sim is seeing, like the cavern that is part of For Rent. It's a shame you can't travel with them. 🏝️
