Why even bother with university?

I finally gave it a shot after owning the expansion quite a while. There's interesting new jobs and content in that pack, but the actual university is not it.

First of all, the problem with sims 3 too, was that you can't just make sims and send them straight to university. Nope. Lots of hoops to jump through straight away. And this time, you can't send more than one sim. Fortunately they can attend from home too which sadly was the only option for two reasons: They'd lose the house if they'd all go, and there is no option to send more than one Sim at once.

So I guess my sims had to miss out on most the whole experience, I just never had any interest to send a single sim to university in any sims game. Where's the fun in that?

I had them do one term and just drop out after that. It's way too tedious and I reasoned by the time it would take for them to finish these educations, they would already be at the top of their career. Increased payment is pretty trivial in a game where it's so easy to make money.  And there don't seem to be any other benefits at all like extra traits or anything.

It's just not fun at all to play, I guess it would be different in a dorm, but well not like the previous games if you can only send one sim there. It's also made so much harder to get good grades, and it is so much of a hassle before they even get into university. I am all for more difficulty, but this is just tedious. The game does not explain at all how the grading works, they do all homework and assignments, have high skills and still their grades are sometimes poor.

They will have to fix an awful lot about university for me to ever bother sending sims there again. Not worth the effort. Sims 2 somehow still has the best university because you can send new sims there. To me it's the best way to start a neighbourhood. 8 sims going to university together and spreading out afterwards. Gives all kinds of connections right away and they can build their career with some skills and higher up instead of having no skills or anything as an adult.

  • You can send up to 8 sims to university at once if you move them all into the same house via households option.

They can all apply for university scholarships and stay in the same dorm/house once attending university. It can be tricky playing several students attending university at the same time but it's fun.

I enjoy university.  Works much better though if you setup your own club as a fraternity or sorority and do extra events yourself.  Also setting up the game world helps tremendously.  One of my major projects was creating a Library and updating it so it's a major place for my sims to go when studying which also allows them to meet the Brainiac club etc.

It does need a bit of love and I would update the lots with pack expansion to make it more interesting.

I also now have a rental with a bunch of students living off campus in apartments and that has been a lot of fun as I test the apartments out.  So far it has been great as it mixes up apartment events, going to college and having frat parties through the club option.

Like a lot of things with the Sims it is sort of what you make it.  By itself University is okay but it plays much better by having other packs that support it and updating regions where students gather.  It could use a bit more content though from the Sims team to make the campus itself more interesting and chaotic.
