Writing Skill & Writing Update Idea!

I really enjoy having my Sims write their own books in The Sims 4 and I feel like the Writing Skill is in a serious need of an update/overhaul.

I would love to see Sims be able to specialise in a particular genre and earn extra royalties for writing those books. I think Sims should be able to start book franchises and write dedicated sequels to books. I would love to see Sims be able to complete a book franchise and re-release the series in a box-set format. Some neat gameplay ideas is that Sims could have some positive & negative chance card pop-ups when writing books which could impact the overall hype/success of the book they are writing and this could result in higher or lower sales for the book once it is released.

I also like the idea of Sims being able to be signed up to a specific publisher to publish their books through. Publishers could also have target audiences and if your Sim writes a book outside of that target audience for that specific publisher, it could result in some negative feedback, maybe the publisher decides to cut ties with the Sim author.

I would love some customisation for written books as well. Being able to decide on the type of book cover and maybe even be able to select through a huge list of cover art pictures for your Sims books. Perhaps they could hire an artist through the PC/Phone to illustrate for your Sims book.

I would love to see a modern looking typewriter added into B/B for Sims who would prefer to work on thier books with a typewriter. Some new office items including some new PCs, desks and chair. Would also love to see a Printer/Fax Machine item. For CAS I would love to see some nice new office themed clothing.

In the big Sims 5 Magnum Opus I wrote a year or two back I asked for Book Signings to be added to the new game. I added a picture of Anne Rice at one of her Book Signings.  Writing career is pretty lackluster but events mights liven things up. Hoo what if a stalker came to the signing acting creepy that would be fun.

  • Yes to all of this. I have a sim that’s currently a writer and before him I had a few others so there isn’t really much to explore anymore to more the experience different that I haven’t already done. An overhaul like this would be a game changer my current writer sim would probably thrive in the horror or crime genre if he was able.

Yes I would love to see these as well! It could tie in well with Get Famous.

  • Would be nice if writer sims could get random chance events like attend meet and greets at the library where they could sign books for fans, or read a story to children if they write children's books, and maybe once in a while, if their book becomes very famous, they could earn some extra money from things like a movie based on the book.

  • In my view Sims 2 and 3 did writing much better than Sims 4. in Sims 2 when writing a book you got to pick the book cover AND about 3-4 pictures that went with it so when a Sim pickup the book you wrote they had either speech bubbles (if you were reading out loud to others or thought bubbles if you were reading quietly)

Sims 3 you got a specialist designation if you wrote enough books in a particular genre.

If it were up to me I'd bring both back.

P.S. I like the idea of a typewriter but only if they added the noises they make.

Thank you! I would love to see some additional genres added into the game as well with the update. I think once we've unlocked an emotion based book genre we should also be able to select an emotion from a drop down list that we want our book to give the reader. Imagine being able to write a very sad book and it causes the Sim reading it to cry.

  • I'd love a typewriter and a scroll/book (non-tech) way to write.

I also love the idea of specializing in a genre (and not needing an emotion to write certain types of books, but I can understand an emotion unlocking the type/genre first).

Collections and series would be fun too!
