A way to save terrain (only) to gallery?

2 questions:

1st Question:

Is there any way to save terrain to the gallery without a build? Or designing a full terrain on a lot and then building a small (say a 1x1 square) room so that the whole terrain could be uploaded to the gallery? Then, the build could be deleted and terrain used to build whatever you like.  Basically, is there a way of saving a terrain for download from the gallery to then build whatever you like on, (so long as the lot you download the build/terrain to is the same size to fill it out and then build on it in your game)?

I am wondering bc so many people have trouble with terrain tools, and it’s time consuming. This way, I could design terrains that are suitable for various builds, for anyone to use.

2nd Question: Is it possible to download a build from the gallery onto an existing terrain, or does the lot automatically clear? Or, can you only download a build to a clear/bulldozed lot?

  • Hi there @MarshaMyGames,

A "blank" lot with nothing but terrain editing can definitely be uploaded into The Gallery- no issues there! Once that terrain lot has been downloaded by someone else, they can freely build on that as they wish without losing any of the existing terrain you've created.

As for downloading a lot onto already edited terrain- I'm afraid that's not possible. Once you download a lot, it will automatically wipe any pre-existing edited terrain and replace it with the terrain from the downloaded lot.

  • @MarshaMyGames  Those are very good questions.  I agree with @EA_Solaire 's answer.  I clicked "me too" for your post but the more I think about your second question, the more I realize it would be very difficult (if not impossible) to download a lot onto existing terrain.  The terrain you create would need to be identical to the terrain of the lot being downloaded.  For example, let's say you create a lot with terrain features like a hill or a pond.  If the lot you want to download doesn't include that hill, pond etc. it would look really weird and likely wouldn't function properly.  As for your first question, I like the idea of creating a terrain only lot and then possibly challenging users to build within the space you've created.

I've done this for myself and saved it to my own library before. I've done it if there was a public lot that had a feature I wanted but couldn't purchase.

So using Willow Creek's Magnolia Park as an example. I removed all structures from it because I wanted the pond, as it was before ponds were introduced. I edited all of the terrain the way that I wanted it and then saved the blank lot  with it's pond and it's terrain edits to my library to use for future builds.

I then used it for various lots where I wanted the pond. It was sized down to fit the size of the lot and when placing it I could centre the pond where I wanted it to be. I then built around it. The terrain saved with no problems.

@simsplayer818 Thank you ☺️ This is ideal - I really appreciate sharing your detailed experiences with this. Very helpful advice! I’m so glad you took the time to explain this.
  • @JonaO703 Very good points! These are insightful evaluations to take into account. Thank you for such a thoughtful, quick response!
  • @EA_SolaireYours was the first, most concise response (all the responses that built on yours were amazing) and I’d like to have this question marked as solved. That would help anyone else quickly find this thread, if they have this question.

I do see your response was marked as “accepted answer”, so perhaps that means it’s resolved. According to what I found the instructions didn’t seem to apply to this. Is there a way to do so, if you know?

Please excuse the question if it’s already resolved, (I’m new to this EA site, more accustomed to Quora, where the questioner must mark the question as resolved).
    Thanks again!
