Acting Career Multiple Issues

I am experiencing issues with the Acting Career ever since I installed For Rent and its now at the point when I get a gig it sometimes doesn't even appear on the Career page. When this happens I can use the phone to cancel the gig. Sometimes when I change to a different location the gig will appear. Once I have solved this, I am then struggling with some of the promotion tasks. I "invite co-workers over" to get to know them and there are no changes to the progress for the promotion tasks when I use any combination of interactions. When I have to "Perform Romantic Scenes" my sim starts the interaction with another sim and then it cancels itself. I've tried that with multiple sims as well. 

The only work-around I have found so far is when I "go to work" I am able to do the career promotion tasks on-site during the workday, excluding the Romantic Scenes which just cancels itself as soon as it starts.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how to permanently remedy these issues!
