That article is mostly correct but not completely. Getting nominated and winning are two different things. You won't win without attending the awards show, but you don't have to actually be "watching" it. Just have to be on the lot.
Getting nominated is all about percentages. And you can get an award without being nominated too.
Winning an award is a completely different thing. It's all about timing. Even if you are nominated, winning is strictly a matter of if the host can get through all the other awards from 7-11 before getting to you. The more famous sims in the world, the more they have to get through in that short 7-11 timeframe, and less likely you'll win.
If you have a world with a lot of famous sims, 4 hours simply isn't enough time and you tend to practically never get awards. This is why I made a mod that extends the awards show and doubles the time. Instead of 7-11, I changed it to 4-12. More time available means more likely you'll win in a world overpopulated by famous sims.

@PsychotpsThat’s cool, that would be very useful for folks on PC!
I’m more interested in gameplay-related suggestions, since I’m on console.
I think diversifying your options is a good bet for those who aren’t interested in mods/simply want to achieve this without them. It seems you can be nominated for multiple categories.

Once you're at the ceremony, it's all random. The host will randomly choose someone (nominated?) to win. Then you just have to wait for them to finish their speech before the host progresses to the next one.
I wonder if you have multiple nominations, and the host only chooses from nominations to win, maybe having multiple nominations will increase your chances?
I don't know. But I DO know that four hours isn't much time. There's only time enough for 3-4 awards before time runs out. More famous sims means more nominations, which means less chances you'll win. It's too short.
Maybe having multiple nominations will increase your chances. Instead of 1 out of 10 total nominations, you'll have 2 out of 10?
Hope it works, because on console, you don't have much other choice.
