It has to do with how they spawn in game. They spawn out of Dig Piles and treasure chest, this is by design I would image, More expensive artifacts will likely come from excavation sites. Anyways hope that helps. Anyways just get a artifact covered in clay and place it on a archeology table and take one sim over to that artifact covered in clay and your get a chance at getting a higher quality item., than you can move it later.
Edit: I changed dig pile to artifact covered in clay is the correct one.
Edit: Note There is no guarantee that the debug objects will work as intended.
Maybe this depends on the skill level of the sim. My sim has a level 8. Maybe if he was level 3, this vase would be a fake. We do not know how it was designed

The Asperation also helps too. Anyways I think that is why it comes out of the dig piles as lumps of clay, so that the quality and the generality can be determined if its a fake or a real genuine item. I believe you can turn dig piles into excavation sites that may increase the chance at finding more quality artifacts.

@DMDragonCT @kreatora @IdrilPuck @TopNotchToddler , that all makes sense since many Builders use the Debug as a way of decorating their buildings, not to complete collections! 😉 Completing collections should be done through Gameplay, not cheats -- but it is still nice that we can still use the objects as decorations in our homes! 🙂

Thanks @PugLove888 , but I am not talking about cheating here, I want to back up my collection in case a save becomes corrupt (which happens from time to time). This is possible with other craftables (see post above).
