Can't place exterior trim on top floor because it's "ground level"??

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
What is your current game version number? 1.75.125.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except the kits, Paranormal, and Dream Home Decorator
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Build a room above the ground floor and try to add an exterior trim.
What happens when the bug occurs? I either get an error that it has to be applied to a room above ground level or "nothing to change".
What do you expect to see? To be able to apply a trim to the room.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I'm not sure how often this happens because I don't use trims very often. I was trying to add a room to the top floor of the Landgraabs' house in Oasis Springs and it won't let me extend the existing trim to the new room.

  • @Kattoinette Exterior trims need a fence to attach to on top of rooms, which from your screenshot seems to be what you want.

So, you'll have to "draw" a fence around the flat "roof" on top of the room, and then apply the trim to that.

@Kattoinette  The requirement for a trim is stated in the UI for it.  When I only want a trim and no other structure like a fence, I draw a room on top of the one I want to have it attached to but that is not eligible for it according to the game design. Then I attach the trim, and delete the extra walls on top by using the sledgehammer (not moving the whole structure).

  • @stjmk This is EPIC thank you! I wanted to place trim just below the roof of my tiny home and this is the only way it would work without needing to add a flat layer that would count as more flooring. The fence just disappears under the roof, without deleting the trim.
