@d42d53030b6eeec2 , like @JonaO703 said, the game is free, so it is certainly worth trying out! If you don't like it you can always uninstall it.
But it also depends on what you want out of a game like the Sims. I agree with @JonaO703 in that it is a lot of fun to create Sims in CAS, even without the color/pattern wheel (Create-A Style, as it was called, or CASt for short)! The way CAS is arranged and how the clothing and hairstyles are displayed is the best we've had in the 4 versions of the Sims we've had (and I've played all 4 of them). And while I don't build that often, most builders love The Sims 4! However, I also enjoy playing the game normally, in Live Mode!
As for having to download Mods just in order to do the things that Sims 3 did (and still does!) , you still are advised to download Mods to run Sims 3 because Sims 3 had a lot of problems. Even with The Sims 2, which is by far my favorite Sims game , and also my favorite game ever, it is advised to download Mods in order make the game more stable and less likely to become corrupted. Besides with every Sims game, there is something each one of the 4 mainline games that does something that the others did not do that many players wish the other games did! Don't let that be a detractor to playing any Sims game, or at least trying any of them out! (Sadly, you can't buy the Sims 2 anymore, 😭, but you might find an old copy if you are lucky! I highly recommend it! I was addicted to this game like no other! 🤣 Also, from what I've heard, the Sims 1 won't play on many modern computers, but I do see people still play it on YouTube. Fortunately, you can still play both The Sims 3 and the Sims 4! 🥳)
As for spiral staircases, I think the reason why TS4 does not have them, even though Sims 1, Sims2, and Sims 3 all had them, is because Sims 4 is the only game we have had with 3 different wall heights.🤨 This would make very tricky to get the curl of the staircase to match the different heights , unless maybe you stretched the staircase, but that might mess with the animations of Sims going up and down them. Perhaps they will figure it out, but I really don't know.
As for cars and an open world, there are 2 answers for that depending on what you mean. If you mean cars along with an open world, then the answer is "no" because we can't have an open world with this game engine. The Sim Gurus have stated this years ago. However, if you just want cars even if we can't get an open world, then the answer is "yes, this should be possible" because they would just be Sims 2-style cars! In TS2 cars could be parked in the driveway and could be driven onto and off of your lot, but if you were to choose to travel in your car to another location, then the animation would be of your Sim getting into the car and driving down the street, whereupon a loading screen would appear while the destination you picked loaded. Then when that finished, you would see your Sim drive up to their destination and get out of the car. In this case, cars would not be a substitute for loading screens. Also, in TS2 we could sit in the car and listen to the radio, woo-hoo with another Sim, or even take an old, run-down car and fix it up to either own or to sell to another Sim! You could make quite a profit doing this, and it was a lot of fun!🥳 (I had more fun doing that in TS2 than I ever had watching a car drive around my screen in TS3! 🙌 ) I hope we can get these kinds of cars in The Sims 4 (especially if we can fix them up and sell them for an income) , but I fear that many people only want cars in the game because they think that will get them an open world without loading screens! 😞
True, without an open world, there isn't as much of a need for cars and horses, but I think we could still have fun with The Sims 2 style of cars , and horses could be fun if we could train them for jumping contests! That, along with caring for the horse and styling the mane and tail, could be a lot of fun! 🥳
Personally, I hated the open world that Sims 3 had! It took so long to travel if you were going to the opposite side of the map, that loading screens are actually shorter. This was especially true if you were walking or riding a bike, but not as bad as driving a car. ... unless you had a lesser computer, and then it was torture going anywhere! The Sims 3 had a lot of fantastic ideas, but wasn't optimized very well, which caused many computers to seriously lag, actually stop for long periods of time, and often crash. This didn't happen to everyone, but it certainly happened to me and many others! This was stated by Sim Gurus as the reason why they didn't make TS4 with an open world, so that more people would be able to play it even if their computers weren't top of the line. At first the game wasn't so bad at lagging, stoppages, or crashes, but the more expansions and stuff packs you added , the worse it got. For example, I started really having problems somewhere between one and half years and 2 years. For example, it took me 20 min just to boot my game up, and then I would play for a few minutes, and then it would stop for about 5 to 10 minutes , and then work for a few more, then it would stop again, then work some more, until it crashed... which meant another 20 minutes to boot up my game, all the while getting worse with more packs that I added (which I had all of them) to where eventually gameplay would sometimes stop for 30 min! I had to read books during all these stoppages, waiting for my game to be able to be played -- good thing I love to read!😅
And traveling took forever under these conditions, , so when Sims 4 came out , I was loving having a loading screen that only took 10 to 30 seconds ! 🙌 I never read so much in my life as when I attempted to "play" the Sims 3 (at least about 1 & 1/2 years to 2 years into the run of the game and up to the release of the Sims 4!) I was told that my computer was a middle of the road computer,-- maybe I was lied to , but I didn't have any problems with it doing anything else, and neither did my husband who also used it. In comparison, with the Sims 4 I never had any lagging issues at all until 6 years into Sims 4, and even then it was only a little bit here and there. Even with the bugs that Sims 4 has, my game runs better after 8 years than it did with the Sims 3 after 2 years. In both cases though, it could be in part due to how I play the game. I tend to play with a lot of different save game files, so I probably have less problems than someone who has played for 8 years with only one or 2 save files. And likewise, part of my problem with the Sims 3 was that I was addicted to CASt (the color/pattern wheel that we mentioned before). So much so that I had a ton of pattern swatches in various color combos , which caused my game to take forever anytime I went into Create A Sim , (also called CAS) or into Buy & Build Mode (which also used the CASt wheel), to where I would have to wait 30-40 minutes each time! People who didn't save as many swatches as I did, did not have this problem. 😳🤭😅 So that was partly my fault! However, it wasn't until near the end of Sims 3 being the most recent Sims game that I even found out that collecting too many CASt swatches would cause long loading times for CAS and Build/Buy Mode! Had I been warned of this sooner, I wouldn't have saved so many swatches.
But that brings me to my other problem with the Sims 3 and the open world. The open world was so empty of other Sims that weren't in my household that when I wanted to socialize with them, they were often no where to be found! I would bring my Sims to a park or club, or museum if it looked like any Sims were on it, but by the time my Sim got there, they would be leaving (and not be able to be interacted with) or else would already be gone! This was especially bad for my Sims that didn't work a 9 to 5 job. So if my Sim worked something like 3 in the afternoon to 11 in the evening, sending them to the park would often leave them with nobody to socialize with , or if there were other Sims to socialize with, it took a long time to find them on the map, with no guarantee that they would still be there when my Sim arrived! Even if my computer had worked perfectly with none of the problems stated above, I would still hate how empty the open world was. So, even early on, I wasn't liking the Sims 3 as much as the Sims 2 or even the Sims 1! The saving grace for it was the CASt wheel, which was so fun and addicting that I ended up saving way too many swatches which caused the game to take a very long time to load Build/Buy Mode or CAS! 🤪
Sims 4 has some other features that I prefer such as the ability to multi-task. For example, I can have my Sims eat (replenishing their Hunger need) while watching TV (replenishing their Fun need) while talking to other household members or guests (replenishing their Social need) and if the TV is tuned to the Cooking Channel then they can gain the Cooking skill at the same time! You couldn't do all that at the same time in any version of the Sims! 😂 Likewise, if you put two treadmills side-by-side with a TV in front of them turned on, with another Sim on the tread mill next to them, they can gain Athletic skill, lose weight, fill their Social need , and have fun , all at the same time!
I also love "The Hand of God" which is what I call the ability to live-drag object such as dirty dishes without having my Sims have to stop and do it themselves.
I also prefer how in the Sims 4 it has Supernatural Sims such as Vampires, Spellcasters, and Werewolves have their own dedicated packs that are much more in-depth compared to the Sims 3's Supernatural pack that had several supernatural Sims all in one pack, but less detailed gameplay. I also prefer these supernatural Sims in the Sims4 for to the other supernatural Sims in the Sims 4 that don't have their own dedicated pack, such as the Aliens, Mermaids, and Servos/robots that came in other packs such as Get to Work, Island Living, and Discover University, respectively. I also don't' care much for the PlantSims that while they were free, they also weren't as detailed in gameplay as they were in the Sims 2 and Sims 3.
While the Sims 3 is my least favorite Sims game, there were still things I liked about it. And many other people dearly love it. That said, many people dearly love the Sims 4 . 😊 And I do look forward to the next Sims game, called, for now, "Project Rene", but we will have to wait a few years for that to come out! 😅
Happy Simming! 🥳
