This sounds like you may have 2 separate EA accounts- this is something you'll want to contact the live support team about so they can verify which account your Steam is linked with, and which account you're logging into The Sims with. Here on AHQ we don't have access to your account details to look into this further with you.
Please contact live support from the help site here so they can investigate into this further with you and be sure you're logging in correctly.
I had this problem too. The way I changed my name was, I went to customer portal and signed in, and to get to customer portal you click on your profile in the top right of the screen. from there, click settings (hover over your EA ID) and click the manage button, but only the one underneath My Profile and beside your current ID. You may have to sign in to Customer portal with your current ID and password, but from there you can change anything about your EA ID, like your name, password and date of birth, after verifying your password. then go back to the EA app, restart it, and your ID will be what you changed it to.
