early access on custom content

The "new" rules that were put out in July regarding mods and custom content. I am confused and reached out, but no one really gave me an answer, so I wanted to reach out on here and ask. Creators are not allowed to permanently charge for their content anymore. They are still allowed to do early access though. But how long are they supposed to keep their content under early access only? Like I go to some patreon pages, and they have custom content locked under a paywall all the way back to the middle of 2021. So, I am trying to figure out what the gray area is. Any help for me to understand these rules better would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    Hey all,

There is no specific timeline for "Early Access" periods available, we review these on a case by case basis.

If you run across something you feel isn't right, please let us know by reporting it via the steps in the article here.

  • It has been a month since I report mod authors keeping mods behind permanent paywalls and EA has done nothing, not a single goddamn thing. There is no excuse for this, none whatsoever. Has anyone reported paywalled mods and had things done? Cause I'm convinced EA lied about their policy.

  • Well EA can't look h24 for mods author, expecially when they work for improve the sims 4 and work on project rene, but, honestly i don't understand all this hate for these authors that put behind paywall their mods, some of this people lost theirs job due the recent worldwide pandemy, and try to raise up some money in this way (because bills and food, are not free in this world), i could understand if the complaints are made every time by EA, but EA complain only once, the rest of whining start by the community, and i don't know why, you (talked in general as "you people") want the mods you want for free? You think all is deserved? You pretend people put their effort, time and skill for free only because you can't play whit a specific mod? I see a lot of mods i want to play behind paywall, in some case i buy it, in other case i search if something similar is free around the internet, and in other case i simply give up and play without a specific mod, so people stop whining if a modder decide to put their "work" behind a paywall, if you don't agree, well learn how to made mods and make it by yourself, i don't make mods, but at least if someone try to earn something about their work, i'm totally fine for it, because first, is the right thing to do (no one in this world work for free), second, i know i can't expect others to do things like I say like a spoiled child, and if you desagree with this, well, like i said, learn how to made a mod, and maybe after all, you can understand after the time spent to make one, why authors put their mods behind paywall.

  • So as of now reasonable time still has not been set for Early Access for CC creators? Can this be revised with an actual date in the TOS so the creators will have something to follow? Unfortunately, reasonable time isn't reasonable for all to follow.  Can you also advise what is being done with CC creating abusing the TOS and being reported? It seems like no action is taken once reports are taken the creators have continued to use the paywall to continue to make money off the players even after the TOS was updated showing that is not how they should be conducting business. Some creators are using adfly and other similar sites which can cause viruses on players computers.  Sims 4 was offered to be played for free so you had an increase of players and they have of course watched others play over time using CC so then they want to try it out once they get the game.  They might not realize like us more seasoned players who to trust to get CC from.  So ignoring the reporting of the Paywall CC creators is not protecting these new players. Please advise on what is the plan in the future for this TOS issue.
