Family Fortune scenario feedback
So, I played this, and it was fun, but I suspect that I had a mod issue...
The first thing I did was... should I put this under a spoiler cut in case someone wants to try it their way?
The first thing I did was put them all into a club called Landrys Be Nice with the club activities Be Friendly with Everyone and Be Funny with Everyone, and the banned activity Be Mean to Anyone. This was to prevent them from being autonomously mean due to their sentiments. I then shipped them off to the beach together and made them take turns making sand castles together and cloudgazing until they were mostly little slivers of green--although Eddie and Nyssa ended up actual friends!
Once the relationships and most the sentiments were fixed, I did the dinner party. I made Grandma Nyssa and Eddie the hosts, and Ava, Lila, Geoffrey Landgraab (from the welcome wagon) and Makoa (met him at the beach) as guests. It was kind of awkward but we got a gold, and that fixed the rest of the sentiments by replacing them with "closer from a fun party." Cool!
This moved us on to the next phase, where I made a mistake. Nyssa immediately demanded that everyone get jobs and that Eddie move out and find a partner. I didn't want Eddie to move out because he was my favorite! so I said "Why have a family when I have video games," because I was afraid I'd immediately get the dialog of moving out if I said yes. :P But I didn't really like anyone in the household except Eddie, so... instead I fired up SimDa and sent him on a date with Leila Illes. (Oliana was killed off by Neighborhood Stories.) They had a lovely date, but for some reason all romance beyond Embrace was locked out. I suspect it was the LGBTQIA mod by Lumpinou, because the error message came from that, but part of me thinks that his answer to granny locked him out. [edit: I DID notice that pleading for grandma was locked out, so it's possible that yes, I have unfairly blamed the mod and the scenario really did lock Eddie's romance. The error message I got was Lumpinou's "might be ace" error message, though...]
Eddie went to work and GOT PROMOTED but the scenario didn't give him credit for that. Ava and Lila got jobs, but because of the way the job schedules worked they never actually went in. Eddie also started a garden and ended up making over $4,700 from work and gardening. I decided that I needed to be fair and pursue the other sisters' goals and sent Ava on a date with Geoffrey Landgraab (Neighborhood Stories killed Nancy). This went well enough that NPC autonomy led Geoffrey to propose!
Well! I was feeling really frustrated by Eddie having romance locked out. I almost closed the game and removed my mods--I probably should have--but instead, after getting super frustrated wandering around in mod menus (including MCCC Control--Leila didn't have any romance options with Eddie, either), I got frustrated enough that I decided I wanted to move in Leila and Tane. I used the friendly Ask to Move In social since romance was locked.
I got the warning from the scenario, considered saving, and said "Oh, bleep it" and moved her in, selling all belongings. This apparently counted as Eddie earning over $70K.
This brought us to the end of the scenario. Spoiler: Granny left everything to Ava with a glowing letter about Ava's capacity for kindness, and stiffed Eddie, giving him the least, with a speech about how giving him money is just giving him an excuse to fall back on his old habits. HMF! Ava made exactly $0 and got engaged to the rich widower across the street. Fine, she can take her money with her when she moves out, because Eddie and Leila don't need it. :P
JUSTICE FOR EDDIE! 😉
BTW, Eddie and Leila are engaged, but I had to go into cas.fulleditmode to do it. They now have full romance options, but Eddie is too sad to take advantage of them.
[Edited to Add] Oh yeah, the actual feedback part.
I obviously got emotionally involved in this scenario, to the point where I gave what was obviously a wrong, unstrategic answer because I was attached. This is good! I'm just sad that this led to me telling a story of a guy with a mean grandma and mean sisters who was cut out of the will because instead of giving lip service to self-improvement, he actually DID IT. ☹️
After reading your post, I decided to give the scenario a try despite the fact I hate playing with premade sims.
I concentrated on Eddie and did the bare minimum with the girls to see whether or not the scenario was rigged to go a certain way.
To say I was less than impressed with the outcome would be the understatement of the century. lol
Eddie was the one who got grandma in a better mood, he's the one that worked on improving relationships between the siblings, he hosted the dinner party, got the best job (and was the only one who had actually made money when the scenario finished), and was the only one who had a S.O.
When we were down to the final necessary task, I saved just before Grandma croaked, so I could do some save scumming to see if there were different results each time.
I'll mark the results as a spoiler just to be safe.
Spoiler1st time:
Ava got ~150k, Eddie got ~30k, and Lila got ~28k.
2nd time:
Ava still got the most with ~170k, Lila got ~30k, and Eddie got ~25K.
3rd time, I decided to kill Ava off and release her spirit before Grandma died and see what happened.
Eddie and Lila still only got around 30k each.
This seems to indicate to me that no matter what you do, Ava is the one who is going to get the biggest share of the inheritance and makes the whole thing feel like it's rigged and a waste of time.To make it all worthwhile to me, I used it as Eddie's supervillain origin story, so he poisoned his sisters and got all of the inheritance for himself. 😛
I'm curious if anyone else managed a different result, but I have no desire to play the scenario again.
