I've been playing the new event, and I claimed the Flowing Fronds swimsuit set. It is not showing up in my CAS. When I try to have my sim do the "soak in hot tub" activity, it refuses to recognize it as happened, probably because I can't put my sims in the new swimsuit! UGH! What do I do?

Same here. I did earn the reward and have claimed it but it's not in CAS.
In my case it turned out to be because I hadn't earned the reward yet for the swimsuit. You'll have to complete some of the other objectives in the quest first to get the EP required for the swimsuit.
It took me a little bit to realize it was in the 1 full piece oufit category. Did you try that? Also make sure you have claimed it. And of course dressed in that. Then you should be able to click on the hot tub and it will show up. Also you might need to click on special event category for the suit to show up. Hope this helps.
