Free City Living trial error

I just found out about the free City Living trial and was excited to try it.

When I load the game after having accepted the trial in Origin, a "New Trial Game" button appears next to "New Game" and "Load Game"

Problem is - every time I click it, it tells me I need to restart the game in order for it to work, but I've restarted it like 6 times now, with and without mods and that same notice still keeps popping up. Nothing's changed.

Please help.

For the people still having trouble, I saw on another post that someone went to application settings and selected "automatic game updates" which worked for them.

"I found a fix, that does not require reinstalling Origin or the Sims 4. Maybe someone else mentioned this before and I didn't see it but... I went into "Application Settings" for Origin, and scrolled down to "Client update." Then I selected "automatic game updates, and now the free trial is downloading." - amoeller87

Another person (Lumineers26) also said that the trial didn't work with the legacy version.

I hope that this info helps you out!!!

  • That is exactly what is happening for me, it sucks because city living is one of my favorite packs that I would love to try, but unfortunately this is happening.

For all the people who tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it with unsuccessful results, how did you uninstall Origin? When uninstalling it you have to go through some pretty specific steps—you can't just right-click it and click uninstall. The steps that I followed to uninstall it are here: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/#hard-way

If you're still having trouble, then I'm really not too sure what else to try. Good luck to everyone!!

  • I chatted with support about this.. they basically just said its a known issue, they are working on it, and your sol until they fix it.

  • I am also having this exact issue. It's quite frustrating as I really wanted to try this game and don't know what else to do.

I have contacted tech support multiple times for this. They have told me to do things I have already done and it has not worked. The problem is that the city living files are not on my computer. The game files are not installed and when I click the download button on origin it does nothing.
In the sims, it says my trial is active, but I do not have the game files for it to work. They tell me to clear my cache, reset origin, I've tried everything but that is not the problem, the problem is there is nothing I can click to install, and the files did not install on my computer. I hope they fix this I was hoping to try city living.

  • Hey guys!

Try changing your origin application settings to automatic uploads! This worked for me🙂

  • @LacedReason Haha thanks, but all the credit goes to amoeller87 who figured it out, but I'm always happy to help out and share whatever information I find!! Enjoy playing with the trial!!! 🙂
