Frozen and even Alt-F4 didn't save the day

My infant was in the cot as my adult sim was attempting to take them out. 

I couldn't click on the adult sim and when the plumbob eventually moved over I only had infant options on the cot. 

The game then froze and I could move around the screen but could not action my sims to do anything. 

I attempted to travel (clicked 'm') to try and get around the freeze but then I just got the ever turning loading symbol. 

I tried Alt-F4 multiple times to try and save my game but ultimately had to task manager out of the game. 

This has happened where I have not been able to use Alt - F4 multiple times to save. 

I have recently updated my RAM in my computer to attempt to resolve this issue and even that has not worked. 

I do not have any mods installed currently as I have already cleared them following earlier freezes.
