Game crashes after customizing household

I can't go into gameplay, once i have custormised my household and place them into a house, the game just crashes then wont let me go into gameplay with my sim. This means that i cant play any game, i have just bought the new expansion pack ( university life) so i don't know if it has crashed my game?
