Household limit

Why is the household limit set to 7 or 8. Alot of people want bigger families so why hasn't EA made a bigger household limit. I don't want to have to infect my device to have a bigger household. And I want to be able to have a bigger household and get achievements.

  • @kirty96 I think the max # has always been 8. I'm not a coder, so it's really a question a coder would have to answer as to why there is a set limit, often I think it has to do with maybe the houses or lots can only function with a certain amount, or that's what I'm guessing. I guess added a few more might be cool, but it might be hard to keep up with say 10 sims, but I guess if you really wanted a challenge, but it would be hard to micromanage past a certain amount, 8 is pretty hard, 4-6 is about normal for me, or I just prefer playing a couple, or couple with kid.
  • @kirty96 Also, I think one person mentioned somewhere on 1 or 2 pages currently, that there are mods you could download from like 3rd party places, which might allow you to have 100, I have never used a mod to make more than the average count. Sure, it might be funny to see what would happen, but I don't know how that would affect loading times or if having too many sim control would make the game behave weirdly, so it's probably not something I'd look into, unless for a weird experiment. So, you could try looking at mod the sims, or people's individual 3rd party websites, I'm sure there's at least 5 if you type that into a search engine. I only used mod the sims for maybe sims 2, and I can't remember if I did that for 3, but I felt 3 was fine as is, and 4 is roughly the same, so I only rarely mod, but I try to avoid most mods as it often causes weirdest in my games, and if people don't keep their mods updated, which doesn't usually happen, but that can affect your game, or if they don't save a file type right, well things like that can happen with modded content. Most people do know what they are doing, but that's not everyone, concerning any game that mods (like Skyrim or Fallout series, Sims also has a large modding community which is great, but most of the time I'm fine playing a game the normal way and just using a few money code, if I need to reset a sim parameter, sometimes I might use a slash command if I can find what I need it for, but even me using a slash command is only every now and then.
  • My understanding is that it has to do with system performance.

There are mods that let you have larger households, but they're tricky.  A lot of features don't work with more than eight Sims in the household. For example, "split household" doesn't work.  Also, if you go into CAS (Create-A-Sim) to change their outfits when they age up some of your family members might just disappear forever because CAS can only handle eight Sims.

If you're still interested, I know MCCC will let you do it. If you do, remember to always use MC CAS instead of regular CAS.
