How to tutor in The Sims 4

I was having a hard time getting my sim to be able to mentor, and I think the mentee has to be "practicing" specifically for the mentor to be able to mentor that sim. I don't know for certain, but that is the only way I have been able to get it to work so far.

Just realized that your sim may be too young. You have to be an adult (not young adult) to get the mentor ability in that challenge.

Amazing how people just assume others can't understand the obvious in a game with such a rich variety of bugs! After reaching the 10th level in guitar playing and trying to do anything to tutor somebody, I resumed to composing songs, and composed a new one. That's when I was sure: the message that appears when I finish a composition mentions that I'm level 9, not 10, and if I practice more, nothing happens. So seems to me that that's where the bug leaves. Now it's up to EA to work on this one out. I know, one more bug in a list of a million ones on our perfect game is too much to ask, but at least I think it's safe to notify it as a bug. Your real life Sims thank you. 

i had the exact same issue, really disgraceful that they haven't fixed it in 6 years, in order to fix it your mentor as well as the one you want to give the education in music to has to play that instrument, so my mentor has to play guitar as well as the one he wants to teach. really dumb.
