Inspiron 15 5000
Hi, looking to buy this laptop and I'm wondering would the spec be able to play Sims 4 with many expansions packs at high quality?
The specs are:
- 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8565U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz)
- Windows 10 Home 64bit
- NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) MX130 with 4GB GDDR5 graphics memory
- 8GB, 8Gx1, DDR4, 2666MHz
- 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400 rpm 2.5" SATA Hard Drive (Storage)
Thanks 🙂

@fennelly99 The laptop you linked wouldn't be able to handle Sims 4 on the highest graphics settings, especially if you had a few demanding expansion packs, like Seasons and Island Living. Medium settings would probably be fine, but the MX130, while better than an integrated graphics card, is still not very strong. Given the way games are made and the normal configurations available in prebuilt computers, the graphics card is usually the limiting factor when it comes to how well a given game will run, and that's definitely true of Sims 4.
I asked someone who lives in Ireland where he'd buy a laptop, and he said it would be cheaper to order it from elsewhere in Europe. If you're willing to do this, I found several computers on Amazon's UK site; delivery would be free. (It would also be better to pay in pounds rather than euros, given Amazon's less than favorable offered exchange rate.) There's more information here:

Since the laptop you linked is priced at €750, I looked for laptops in that range. The cheapest good option I found that wouldn't require you to upgrade it yourself is this one, at £650 (€712). It has a better processor and a much better graphics card than the Dell, the same 8 GB RAM, and a 1 TB hybrid hard drive.

For £679 (€744), you could get a much stronger graphics card: an Nvidia 1650. The downside of this laptop is that it only has a small 256 GB solid state drive, which might not be enough room if you want to do more than just play Sims 4. You could always add a second drive later though.

The same laptop as above, except with a 17" screen and a 512 GB SSD (which is plenty of storage) would cost £740 (€811).

If you'd prefer to buy in Ireland, the cheapest decent Dell laptop is €850. It has a slightly better processor but a notably weaker graphics card than the last two options above, and a 512 GB SSD. (I'm referring to the first one listed.)

The Asus Ireland site redirects to the U.K. storefront, where the last two laptops are both offered for a bit more than Amazon (sort by price and look at the first two entries):

Other than that, I'd have to look around more, but the prices are probably always going to be better if you buy from another country.
