I like to have a least one of my sims collect, fish and cook new things. Without telling me specifics please, does outdoor living provide "new" things in these areas. New harestables? Trying to decide if I'll buy it during the black Friday sale.
I'm also thinking of buying Island living. Same question though. Without specifics are there new collectables, fish, harvestables, recipes? Is the game with it overall?
Even with possible deals with black Friday is still a lot of money to spend on a game that has really let me down so much.
Were these games worth the money to you or did they let you down?
@PugLove888 No worries! I did not get the impression from your first post that Island Living was a bad expansion pack. I will definitely get it, it's just a matter of when. I'm still fairly new to TS4 and I've been slowly adding to my content library bit by bit.
Btw- I also love the Cats and Dogs EP! Brindleton Bay in autumn or winter is so gorgeous that it's kinda ruined some of the other worlds for me xD
@RandomBuzziness, I agree about Brindleton Bay! I love the how the Seasons play out there! The trees are wonderful and I love the Cape Cod style of buildings there! Cats & Dogs and Seasons are my favorite EPs.
The world of Glimmerbrook in Realm of Magic is also gorgeous! ❤️ (It is a smaller world though.) Selvadora in Jungle Adventure is also stunning, just in a different way from Brindleton Bay and Glimmerbrook! 😉
I'm glad that I didn't give you the impression that Island Living was a bad pack! 🙂 I just want people to know what they are getting in a pack before they buy it, and I know of several instances where people mistakenly thought it was a vacation pack. And since @RonneeSimmer seemed to also like another vacation pack, I wanted to be clear. 😳
I love the worlds in OR and IL but I’m not into gameplay, I mainly build so it does depend on what you hope to get out of the pack.
The others have given you great and differing perspectives on the packs. When it comes to bugs yes, there are a lot of them but as long as you make sure you update your game when patches are released this will help to squish them.
Your hardware is a massive indicator of how well the game will perform too and should always be taken into consideration when adding more content to your game.
@PugLove888 , thank you (and @InfiniteVerve, @MapleSimmer, @BlackjackWidow, @Bluebellflora) so much for all of that information! I'd have to agree with you on Cats & Dogs and Seasons. I also love Get Together as Windenburg looks amazing in the winter and I love the idea of hanging out in a cafe or tavern when it's cold outside.
So what am I thinking of adding next? Lol that's a very good question and something I should probably figure out soon! My next EP will almost certainly be Island Living. I'd like to see how things look after the December patch before I decide on when to buy.
Even though Sulani is a "home" world rather than specifically a vacation destiny like Granite Falls or Selvadorada, I'd like to experiment with creating something like a campground on a vacant "generic" community lot. I'd place some sort of restroom facility but otherwise just landscape it to blend with the surrounding area. My Sim could travel to this lot and camp out using a tent and portable furniture from the OR pack. So yeah, sort of a "vacation" destination on a "home" world. I'm sure I'd also love to switch to a different Sim family every now & then to live there full-time.
To get back to your question, though, I'm waiting to see what goes on sale for Black Friday. I haven't added very many Stuff Packs yet so I am thinking maybe My First Pet Stuff or Laundry Day Stuff as they seem like they would the best match for my style of play. I tend to play single Sims with one or more pets rather than families with young children. I might consider StrangerVille if I decide to buy a Game Pack as I already have Jungle Adventure and Outdoor Retreat, the two GP's I wanted the most.
@RonneeSimmer If I had to choose just one pack I would get Seasons. Given the description of your favorite gameplay aspects, I think you would enjoy it also. (My second choice would probably be Get to Work, which you have, as I enjoy selling food and produce in Lice Cold Freezers in retail stores, plus other aspects of that pack).
I also love the plants and gardening aspects of the game. I have sims who are millionaires simply due the volume and quality of their gardens. It's one of my favorite aspects of the game, and certain skill and collection tasks and goals are enhanced by this pack. I look at it more as a huge 'gameplay upgrade' more than as adding features. I recently took all packs out of my game for a base-game building task and was surprised how much the personality of my playtime and worlds was affected. 'Seasons' adds a realism, enhancement, and challenges to all worlds.
Seasons will add the gardening career, which offers the Florist and Botanist careers. Snowfalls are gorgeous, and you get lightening and blizzards (which can be disabled), rain (and humorous 'puddle' interactions - see below), heat waves, autumn/falling leaves, and freezing issues to battle sometimes. I am from Michigan, so it feels way more realistic to me.
Note: I wouldn't avoid adding packs because of bugs that can arise. Many of the bugs will be things that you may not even be playing in your game, and will be fixed by patches/updates (which usually come out monthly). It's an annoyance, but it's a bit akin to not having children because they introduce more colds into your household. The gains are wonderful, and the hassles are mostly temporary annoyances.

@RandomBuzziness, I like your idea for Sulani for when you get Island Living! I know I would love to camp on the beach! 😎 I do find Sulani very peaceful, more peaceful than the other worlds I the game. So, when I'm stressed I choose that world to play!
Windenburgh from Get Together does look amazing in the Winter, but it is pretty in all the seasons! I love the Tudor architecture! ❤️
Another thing I love about Seasons is that sometimes lightening strikes will leave a crystal, metal or element! 🤨🙌
Both My First Pets and Laundry Day have very cute items! (I don't even like laundry but I still like this pack! 😃)
While my favorite Game Pack is Parenthood, that doesn't sound like the best fit for you , unless you wanted to change up your gameplay for variety's sake. Since you like Single Sims with a few pets, you might like the City Living EP! That is a very good pack for a single Sim or just a couple in a household. The Strangerville GP is very good for Single Sims as well! Single Sims have an easier time concentratning on solving the mystery! 😎
Yes, I agree about waiting to see which packs will go on sale. I got some of my Game Packs and most of my Stuff Packs through sales! 🙌 Feel free to tell us what you end up getting next! 😇
Gardening is a blast! I actually never considered getting Seasons because I didn't like how my plants went dormant past of the year in Sims 3. But knowing the careers that seasons offer makes me want to try it now. We have these flowers but nothing to do with them except sell them. I'd love to make arrangements. That sounds so cool. I will most likely turn off all the weather effects. At least until I let my couple have kids.

@RonneeSimmer I also don't care much for having my plants go dormant if I am playing a household that focuses on them. So... In households where I cook dishes, baked goods and cupcakes to sell in my bakeries or want year-round harvestables &/or flowers, I make indoor/sheltered sunrooms or greenhouses with windows &/or glass roofing for year-around plants that are not effected by weather. (I have also made businesses where I combine a bakery and florist shop.) For normal homes I don't mind the seasonal aspect - I just keep extras in inventory to get through the off season, or keep a few multi-plants (spliced) in the living room in pots for off-season cooking. It's fun to come up with creative solutions. To me that's half the fun of the game!
In seasons you also get holidays, including 'Father Winter' (Santa) and 'Winterfest' (Christmas), beehives (fertilize your garden and make honey) and skating rinks (the game spawns them in worlds (roller skating and ice skating). You can play in leaf piles, make show angles, snow pals, snowball fights: https://youtu.be/pG7mn3tpWAM... water balloon fights and mud fights and all sorts of little and big things throughout the worlds.
I was very surprised to enjoy Laundry Day, as @PugLove888 mentioned. It has some cool decorative items, and the laundry aspect also adds challenge and realism. And Parenthood adds some interesting challenges and interactions if you play families, and I am in love with a bunch of the build items in it (like the kitchen items and cabinets). I also agree very much that it really depends on your play-style and what you most enjoy in the game.
Have fun deciding, and I'm happy to hear you will be able to take advantage of some great deals - and maybe even get more in budget range with the sales! 🙌
Like @SheriGR , if you shelter your plants they don't go dormant! So don't let that stop you from getting Seasons if you feel you will like other aspects to the game. In addition to what Sheri stated, you can also have water balloon fights, play in the mud or rain, lounge in the kiddie pool, play in the sprinklers, and more. Lightning will sometimes leave a crystal, metal or element that you Sim can collect to be sure to see if a lightning strike leaves anything behind. You can also give yourself abilities with Aspiration points so your Sim is cold or heat proof, water proof, and even give them the Storm Chaser trait so they enjoy storms instead of being stressed by them . There is also a Weather Machine that allows you to change the weather! And with the beehive, make sure you stock up on honey... Even poor quality honey will help fill hunger, and more importantly if you are about to die from being too cold or too hot, honey will save you! 🙌 Bees have other good interactions as well. And of course they will sting you if you aren't wearing the beekeeper suit. You can also make your own Holidays, and erase existing ones. Some holidays are minor like Skill Day, but others are major like Harvest Day.
And you get a ton of new flowers in Seasons!
Well you do have a lot of information to think about! Please update us when you make a decison, and hopefully there will be a good sale for you as well! 🤞🥳
